woke up this morning and my back feels MUCH better. Still not 100%, but between teh stretching, Dr's orders, PT people and rest, I'm pretty sure I'll be ready to surf my guts out for 6 days. Here's to hoping PR gets a solid shot of swell next week that keeps it well overhead for at least a few days.

    :D

As you well know, the clock is ticking ticking ticking, time races away ever-faster & the surf, while always there, won't always be there...

    than this, this, this.'

So leaving for France this weekend, spending Tuesday in Hossegor and this is the forecast for the day. I am def going to rent a board but the water is 56 and I own a 3/2 with short sleeves. Do I man up and just use that (is that crazy?) or anyone have any other suggestion? I'm a little out of my element here, I stay in water above 70.

I'd be wearing at least a 3/2 full with boots. At least...

And... I'll add... that I hate you.

You're gonna be cold dude, you'll want a 4/3 or wear some things in addition to your 3/2 w/short sleeves such as a thermal rash guard and a 2 mil pair of neoprene shorts underneath. I'd throw on some booties too.

I have a 2 mil top and 2 mil shorts, maybe if I squeeze into those with the suit on over I could make it an hour?

Is there such thing a renting a wetsuit lol? I could wear the neoprene shorts underneath as to not share the sack space with a dirty frenchmen.

    Kyle,
Here in NH I use a LONGSLEEVE 3/2 down to about 55F. With booties below 60F. Were it me, as you are NOT accustomed to real icy waters, I would take a 4/3 and booties. Better to be a bit warmer than colder. But if you have NEW 3/2 with booties, that may do.
Again, I hope you hav a great trip, and don't forget St Chapelle....

Hmm so might just go grab a new 3/2 before I leave and bring the thermal top and short to add underneath. Would the 2mil boots I have help at all?

Thanks again for the help Barry, will def be going to St. Chapelle later in the week.

I usually wear both thermal rash guard and 2 mil shorts under my 3/2 along with boots when water and wind is in the 50's, keeps me warm. You'll be fine for an hour.

    A *good* 3/2 or a *cheap* 4/3 will work in 56.

2mm booties might work, 3's would be mo betta

    jelly here, good luck K

Wheels up tomorrow morning to PR. Here's to hoping this swell sticks around longer & larger than forcast, and that my back holds up (went back to the PT yesterday and I'm sore as sh!t today). Hope yall get some back home, even if its only a sloppy bj

Had a fun first full day. We stayed up a little late after getting in aroun 930pm. Took it easy this morning, hit a panaderia for some covfefe and then on to surfers beach. Caught it solid chest with the occasional head high set rolling through. Crowded (big surprise), but I caught plenty of waves. Never surfed there before, but had my lineups dialed after about 15-20 minutes, and proceeded to go to town. My back was a little wonky on my first two waves, but loosened up the more I surfed. By the time we got out, it was a little choppy, but only 3 people out. Late lunch and then hit jobos for shits and giggles. Winds backed off a bit and that was solid chest. Off to dinner, will post pics later

I have finally burned out on surf travel. For the near term, anyways. Hello TPTSNBN & your mediocre waves, with joy & fondness :D

Okay, so now that I finally have a chance to calm down I can post some pics. Came home to a household where everyone in my family had the flu. By the grace of God I'm still well, but have been working from home and watching kids while the wife sleeps 20 hours a day. Thank God I go the flu shot.

So I basically surfed the north coast every day - jobos, surfers beach, middles, etc. Spent most of my time at surfers' as it was the most rippable while I was there. Solid chest high every day with head high sets that faded in frequency as the week wore on. Crowds were present, but I never had any issues with getting my wave count. There was an hour one day where some guy showed up who absolutely ripped! He and I traded set waves, but otherwise I had my pick of the litter on the sets the rest of the time. Got a bunch of fun waves.

So I've only traveled to PR just to surf a few times (worked here a bunch)- and was reflecting on on what lbcrew said regarding rincon. I realized on this trip how rare and special I caught Rincon on my first dedicated surf trip to the region. Caught Marias at doh with only a few people out and super clean...I'm realizing now that I could go every year in Feb for the next 10 years and not score it like I did the very first time (unless I did something last minute).

The other breaks I explored and surfed were so much better. When I go back, I'm defintiely going to stay in Aguadilla or Aguada, and will only hit Rincon if it's going off and everywhere else is blown out. Anyway, there are a ton of other places I'd like to explore first, so I don't think I'll be back for a few years. Heres a couple of pics I snapped of surfers beach. 20190214_094851.jpg 20190214_132612.jpg 20190215_105758.jpg
