Ya...I'm a teacher and a musician. Work me arse off 9 months a year. Rent the house out for the summer and it pays for the trip. Also usually take a 2 week overseas trip during the holidays. It's not for everyone but it works well for me
I can relate! I work my ass off for 7-8 months a year, with all kinds of crazy hours. Working 60-70 hour weeks, sometimes 80 and then off all Summer and most of the Spring! Got another trip to Oahu all but booked for August or possibly early September. For the third time in the last year and second time this year! Enjoy your trip!
Going to be heading to Vegas for a day or two then driving to California. October. Not sure the plan yet. But I'll start either north or south. Then head down or up the coast. Definitely want to spend a day or two in big sur. The rest of where i stay will depend on waves and what wifey and the other couple with us want to do. Never been to California. Pretty pumped. Should be a good time
You should hit Santa Cruz or somewhere along that coastline. I’ve been once and it was one of my favorite trips. Wish I could have stayed longer.
That was actually another spot i wanted to check out. Plan would be to stick to the coast and spend a day or two then continue on.
Big part of the reason for going would be to get pics. I'd surf a session or two but the rest of the time would be about shooting. Would really like to get my two sons down there to break up the summer flatness.
Just booked Cabo today. This one is mostly about Romancing (wink wink). Never been but super stoked to explore a bit. I started to do a rogue trip with friends 15 years ago and backed out...always regreted it. Hopeful for a good trip!!!
Right on dude, where you staying? Are you bringing a board, or just a stiff dick? If you have a rental car, take the 2 hour drive to Playa Balandra near La Paz. Very romantic. If not, Playa Chileno is another romantic beach near San Jose del Cabo. There's other places to surf besides Zippers and Old Man's. This is the time of the year for consistent waves there. Have fun
Yea man pretty stoked. Staying in a club level resort near Puerto Los Cabos. Gonna live it up a bit! Not bringing board...gonna rent (so far looking at renting from Costa Azul but still figuring that out). Gonna drive around Peninsula up to Todos (will be as far as I explore). I think I want to see my chick reel in a game fish so we may do an excursion offshore. Funny you mentioned Old Man’s...i was looking at alternatives to Zippers and checked that out. I imagine when it’s pumping there plenty of breaks. There is a rock point near resort that looks like it has potential...I have a lot to learn about that stretch before I go! Still planning but that is part of the fun!!!
Suite. Todos is a beautiful little town, it's halfway to La Paz (which is on the gulf of California side). Never surfed there. More of an artsy tourist town. About halfway to Todos is Los Cerritos, a cool little surf town with bars, restaurants, and a right semi-point with scattered beach peaks. If the waves at Costa Azul are crowded and agro, look for the Restaurante Sunset do Mona Lisa just west of Puerto Cabo. At the bottom is Monuments, a secluded left reef on a little crescent of sand away from the Cabo mobs. Surf it on higher tides, reef is kinda shallow. They just built a 5-star resort on the bluff in the last couple years, but I don't believe much has changed. Try not to use your ATM card in town, thieves abound. Use the one at your hotel instead. Bring back pictures (if this site hasn't gone 100% tits-up by then.) Tits-up = chi-chi's arriba in Spanish. Ok, not really but it sounds funny.
I was in San Jose Del Cabo this time two years ago. It was a big and meaty 6-10ft the whole time. I surfed the Estuary, Zippers and Old Mans. I liked Old Mans best. It was kinda crowded, but super fun and peeling rights. Easy paddle out, etc. If you are looking for barrels, the Estuary can provide that. I couldn't figure that break out though... If you decide to check it out there's a really cool, short nature trail to the left side of the Holiday Inn. It dumps you out right on the beach and the Estuary is a short walk to the left. Never got to Monuments, but wished I would have as I am goofy. I rented from Costa Azul. They were pretty professional. Enough of a selection to find what you need. I think it was about $25 a day. Good luck and keep your whits about you. It's Mexico. I felt generally safe there, but did see a guy with a buck fifty scar out about in the town. Nothing you might not find in your Urban neighborhood, but still. Be safe!
Wourde! I am figuring solid swell pumping in there. Glad to hear about costa azul b/c it seems convenient. Thanks for well wishes...
There's a half dozen waves of equal quality to Costa Azul further east up the cape, much less crowded but it's a drive on longish dirt roads off the main highway. The Estuary (La Bocana) can be fun, but it's mostly thumping shorepound best suited for bodyboarders. Can get polluted pretty bad after a heavy rain. All of Cabo pulls in south swells. If there's a pulse of south, Cabo will get it. But if primary swells are out of the west, you'll want to check the breaks towards the coast. Monuments will break if there's no south sliding into the cape. Cerritos is usually backup plan #1.
