Yeah there's a spooky little spot on the mouth of the Willapa that comes alive during funky conditions, pretty much like everything else in the state. Can get fun and even pretty good occasionally, but the conditions around the mouth can get gnarly. Too many big fish stories too...I won't surf this place alone.

Always good to hear from you, Rod. PM me if you're ever in the area for surf, beer and talk story

La_Piedra, for sure. I was able to surf in N. Oregon a fair amount in the early-2000s-2012 or so, had a lot of good times. Love the scenery. The guys down there kept a keen eye on the salmon run reports to avoid big whitey.

Yeah it's about time for salmon right now. We usually get a weeklong spell where the entire Jetty area gets enveloped in a massive bait ball, turning the water very stinky and dark. The bait fish attract salmon and hordes of other fish, which in turn attract other big fish, which attract seals, sea lions, otters, and massive amounts of predatory birds circling above. The concentration of birds tells you where all the action is, so when they start circling above me I get a little nervous lol.

Last August was a huge event, I counted at least 5 Humpbacks in the mix, maybe 20 yards outside the lineup. Wifey got some cool pix that day, maybe I'll post them up when I get the time.

    Cheers

Texas, where everything is bigger except the waves! . I love to travel to surf but also love the fall and spring here. Hopefully retiring to France eventually where the waves are better. I'm a regular in Galveston and Surfside. Started surfing on my brothers 7' single fin O'Neil when I was 7 or 8 at sea rim state park in Port Arthur. The waves seemed alot bigger back then.
