Got out this morning before work... ANOTHER FUN DAY!!! liners again... peeling nicely. about chest hi on set. (west) wind was really getting on it when I left. seemed like it had the potential to knock down the size quickly (for those of you looking to surf after work- check the cams) the lines where not as long as the other day, but still super fun!!!
Jesus did you surf your usual spot this morning If so I saw you dawg..I "thought or fought" boot stopping there but I headed a little further south It was getting beat down by the wind like some pimp and hooker action you might see under the El Ah and a 4/3 was legit till that wind picked up LB Crews I still really want to ride that keeled fish of yours
JawnDudski! you shoulda paddled out! I checked the normal presidential spot, but didn't surf there... was at another one of my not so normal spot in front of the huge building that takes up a whole block. was riding a bright orange longboard , 2 other guys out. dude i was all about the 4/3! Its not like the water got warmer, but with the warm air its perfect! I didn't stay out too long so i didn't get cold (had to work) Where did you surf??
Surprised I didn't see you... I was a few blocks south of the prez, in front of that overpriced seafood joint. Wind was wicked.
The end of February and beginning of March have been pretty damn good so far. They've bulldozed the beach pushing sand to help the dunes which in turn has help create some really fun and dredging shorebreak. Some wild and unruly high tide shorebreak is my favorite type of wave especially when it goes from maybe waist high, out to sea, gutless low tide to firing chest high + barrels once the tide fills in. It doesn't hurt that the water temps are almost in the mid 50's already!
Interesting set up this morning with 14 seconds coming outta the NE. Pretty fun, warmer water (b/c I drove to it) and no one out for miles except me and a brudda. No gloves....couple of fun hours before the wind doubled and the tide drained.
Surfed yesterday for about 2 hours, it sucked. Surfed today for about an hour and a half and it was a little better. You def had to be way out on the should or you just got 1 pump and then close out.
Got back from Costa Rica Saturday. Surf was shoulder head high most of the week. Very average, but fun in warm waters.
Fun session yesterday on a little East groundswell. SI nailed it. Fortunately I was able to get out just before the crowds started to show up and got a few in before having to strategically avoid the packs that eventually set up at every peak. Can't blame 'em, though. The sun came out, the waves were consistent chest high on set and fairly clean. A good, fun day overall...
Got out both saturday and sunday in Delaware. ENE groundswells are tricky...Delaware faces right into it. Waited for afternoon higher tides and oddly the winds seemed to let up in the afternoon both days. To me, the water was as cold as its been all winter by a few degrees, but the lack of any wind helped. The next ten days/bright March sun should jump the water up several degrees.
I looked for your car. Saturday I was on the south side about noon to 3 or 4 and then Sunday I was North side from about 3:15 until about 4:30. Anytime in the ocean is fun, but it wasn't the best session
What's happening? I'm surprised more people aren't talking up Saturday. I was in absolute bombs on Saturday. Agree with Mitchell about the water temps. My toes got numb. I was in early before the tide went too low which helped keep the long walls open for a bit. I had a blast.
Def some bombs up in NoMoCo... but it never really cleaned up. You might have been able to find a decent wave if you looked around... I'm sure some guys did. My window was small... I passed.
Yesterday the groundswell arrived about an hour before the wind, but I had to help my wife set up for Greenmarket, so.... I made it out as the winds went sideshore and ramped up to about 20. The paddle out along side the pier was easy, but once you got to the end, the drift would put you south of the peak quickly. If you were in the right spot, a set would come in and you could get a right back towards the pier, about a foot or two OH and long fast sections to smack the lip and cutback and do it again till you got almost back to the rip along side the pier. So ideally, a bouncy drop into a walled up pitching right, a few carves, and take the rip out the back and wait for another set. Then old age took over and I couldn't paddle against the current anymore to stay on the peak, and took off left into closeout oblivion. It's gonna be windy onshore with an underlying groundswell all week, but more east wind so less drift. Life is goode!
That's how I did it yesterday. On a short board it was a quick drop to the bottom and that was about it. The early entry of the log let you race that wall a little bit longer and ride whatever was left after it all crashed down. Nothing to great but it hit the spot. Weather was sweet.
