Saw the buoy hit 3 ft 6 sec from the SSW. Knew it would be too steep for the E facers so I took a trip up the road with a russian international student with me. She's still learning but I knew the surf was going to be really doable for a learner.
Anyways we get there and its got really great form and coming in at about the knee high maybe thigh every once in a while. The tide was low so it was hitting the "outside" sandbar well. Caught some perfect little peelers on the kingfish, hot doggin and steppin all around just to trim fast or fading then bringing it around for some speed.
Had a great sesh, caught some waves, built some friendship, saw a whole buncha porpoise and had a little sensi for the ride back. Fairly great Friday if you ask me.

I'm surprised this thread is on the second page right now. There's waves bouys!!!

Got to the beach, it's half raining, half frozen raining. The path I had to take to check the waves was under like a foot and a half of water. There were what looked like little islands of sand though, it made it look doable. Turns out it was ice and slush. No islands, foot and a half of water. Stupid idea. So to late now so I book it for the beach, see one wave and run back to my truck. It's on

There were a few guys out, maybe 4, all spread out down the beach. Had a easy paddle out. Shoulder, head high on sets. Nice and clean. Fast. Actually, they had straight up gorgeous shape. Had to get out after about an hour due to a new hole in a glove that left my hands frozen. Started snowing, than snowing harder, ride home was rough. Glad I got out when I did and happy with the amount of waves I got in a short session. Should be more tomorrow.

Today was the first day I had the 6'6 shelter bonzer in proper surf. This board just feels like magic under my feet. I can say it's fast but that dosn't get the point across, it's really really freaking fast. Like slap you in the face fast. Its actually something I need to get used to a bit, but that's part of the fun. The thing just wants to be put on rail, and when it does it maintains/gains that speed. Unreal feeling. Stoked on it and can't wait to get it dialed.

Were any of you VBers out today at first street? I think hands down one of the most fun sessions I have had there in years. Great vibe in the water -no one was dropping in (I guess there's a first time for everything), clean, glassy, peeling waist high waves. Just fun! Hope all y'all got some today!

When I left the house it was Snowpocageddon all over again. By the time I got to the break, the snow was done, and the sky was doing some purple-haze type sh*t. Checking the buoy, I thought the paddle-out might be a bit of a hassle, but it was a dry run.

Lots of shoulder high waves coming through with the occasional head high peeler. Nice form, but a little fat thanks to the tide. The wind held up the wave and would throw some serious spray here and there. Looking down the beach, other jetties were picking swell up even more, there were some beautiful lumps rolling through. Saw a couple of guys get covered up.

My session was quite the opposite. I was slipping off my board and sitting in the wrong spot, I managed to take a few on the head after botching a wave. Lately my surfing has resembled that of a Walmart customer. My crowning achievement today was being the last jackasz to get out and trudge through the snow in the darkness. Looking back at the sea, a nice set of three waves came in. Lines of whitewater filtering into the snow white shore.

TLDR; Surfed like sh*t but got wet. Who know's what the rest of the week holds, right?

I was really looking forward to todays session as I needed to exercise a lot of gin and vodka out of my system from last night. It had been looking good on the forecasts for a while now but the wind ended up switching a little bit later than forecasted. When it did switch the offshores were blowing a good 25 mph. I went out about 4p and surfed a solid 2 hours. It ended up being pretty fun but the waves were breaking really fast and with the wind it was good challenge. Sets were pushing head high. It looks crappy for a while so I'm glad I decided to go.

Just got back from my morning session. Still swell out there. Chest high but the tide was making things fat. Didn't have all day like yesterday so just got in. Caught a few. Fun sized and clean with a fun drop still but they would teeter out fast. If the wind stay right it should be really really fun when the tide drops more.

Doors frozen shut this am on the truck, gas tank frozen shut, everything was ice. Everything. There were so many frozen little jagged sections of ice to look out for. It's always an adventure, every single freaking day

What's happening guys? Whose been surfing and wants to tell a story?

Past two days was the very definition of surfing in February around here. It's pretty hard to describe the feeling to folks who don't do it. Only thing I can come with is "beautiful but crazy".

Took a little road trip. The waves were cracking and the weather was raw and wild. The wind was whipping spray and ice and snow and slush in your face as you sat and paddled in but you don't really notice as you surf. The drive home was something. I mellowed back out by endin the day with a cup of scotch/tea on the couch as my boy read to me from a book of 50's Flash comics.

I bailed on it today. Had a suit on, which usually takes a way an excuse, but had a board for yesterdays waves and the tide wasn't right. Probably could have found something to ride if I kept looking but I'm not a fan of surfing the ass end of the swell and there is work to do. Oh well.

Now if we could have yesterdays waves with todays weather....but you get what you get.

    Anybody else go surfing?

Haven't been out on the water in awhile but saw a beautiful full moon reflecting off the ocean during 5 mi. run along the beach this evening. Nice.

Been real busy past few days so haven't had a chance to talk about my adventure this past Sunday. I checked the forecast and it looked worth the drive, was on the road by 6am and headed toward Cocoa / Satellite, approx. 2hr drive. Get off the interstate and on the last main road before getting near the beach, but still have 30 minutes to get to my spot, all of a sudden my battery light starts flashing on the dash and then a message that says "battery not charging".

Hmmm, never had this happen before, wonder how long I got till it dies. I figure nobody is open for a few hours anyways so I might as well keep driving till it dies and hope I get close enough to still be able to surf. IDK, I figure I made it all that way, might as well right? So I kept going and got all the way till about 1 mile from my destination and then the dash board goes completely blank and the gauges are flat lined. No power, but the car was still running. It kept going for a mile and right as I was taking my turn into the parking lot to the beach the power finally cut out completely and the vehicle came to a halt and locked up. But I was able to negotiate a turn in a round about and into the parking lot and out of the way with absolutely no power, and no steering, nothing...

It was quite the feat I might say. But the way I saw it, I made it to the beach, so i'm going to surf and figure it out after. Rather than just leave my ride in the middle of the parking lot, because that would have definitely gotten me towed, i decide to flag down the next car that pulled in. Luckily for me it was the nicest old guy I've ever met. Some snow bird from Chicago who was staying down for 3 1/2 months. He helps me jump the battery and gets it started, I back into a parking spot and he tells me to go ahead and go surfing and he'll wait around to give me another jump if it's dead again when I get out. He said meet me back here in 2hrs.

I took my LB out, find out it's chest to head on the sets but it was kinda choppy and wonky, but hey i'm in the ocean and that's all that mattered at that moment. I caught some fun rides, made the most of it and then when the tide finally dropped out I went and grabbed my SB and went back out and caught a few. Then I see the guy walking back up the beach so I hop out and ask if he was leaving he said to go back out for another 30 minutes if I wanted and then he'd meet me back at the vehicle because my battery was dead again.

He gave me another jump and then followed me all the way to Walmart to get a new battery and then had to take it to Firestone to get a alternator. Barely made it home in time for the Superbowl, but I had 30 minutes to spare. So it all worked out, and all because I decided to surf, and not let the vehicle issues stop me. It was nerve racking cause I didn't know when the vehicle would finally quit, but I lucked out some how.

    That's a good story!
I gotta hand it to you, you are a legit weekend warrior. Chomping at the bit all week and dashing out first chance. I bet you surf more than most guys that live a lot closer to the beach.

Anybody else got a good story about their surf this week? Tell us what happened. We had a good swell in the beginning of the week and a little bump on the way. Might be the same for next week too. Next thing you know it will be March and we'll start getting spring swells.

No story, but a nice session today. Nobody out, light offshores, and the sun just finished burning off the marine layer. Clean, racy, drifty, right-handed closeout barrels. Chest high with light offshore puffs vying with the noontime onshore trend. Nothing memorable. Saw a seal. Kinda fat on the tide, but onshores started in earnest by the time I took one in, so the best timing there was to be had. Probably flatter tomorrow, better Friday. Next week is fcst to be DOH. .

Thanks Peajay, I take it as a compliment, and I believe you are correct (about surfing more than some of the locals), it's to the point where the dedicated locals all think I live down the block from them. When I tell them where I come from they are shocked that I do it every single week. This is the reason my wife and I are moving come October when our lease is up. Finally, finally, FINALLY got enough money to pull the plug and start a new life on the coast with my wife and dog, and maybe soon after have a child, who knows. Maybe not.

The ocean just calls me to it, and I cannot say no. I didn't have this type of dedication as a teen / 20 something, it didn't click until I turned 30 (i'll be 34 in April). Money and having an awesome wife has made it possible for me to pursue my dream. The dream of living near the ocean and seeing it every day and getting to surf whenever there are waves. The past 4 years I have been been living in two places just outside of Tampa and also on the E. Coast. We probably pay nearly as much in gas and hotel stay as we do for rent each month. All worth it though...

What do you mean? That is the story. You put down exactly what this thread is about. You surfed today and you talked it up. Sounded good to me. I bet you you got that feeling we're all looking for when we surf. Next time throw in what you ate afterwards. Thats part of the experience too right?

Thanks Speed, and to everyone else who is sharing their surf stories from this week. Keep em coming!
    Here's to the surfers,
    Cheers,

Cool, thanks again dude. Hey... btw, forgot to mention my post session grub. While I was waiting on my alternator to get replaced I walked over to Ruby Tuesdays and ate some Thai Phoon Shrimp and drank a couple Jack Daniel's to hold me over till I got home. The shrimp was ok but the drinks were on point. Walked back after I was done and they had just finished with my ride. Made the drive home not feel so bad!

    Don't drink & drive kids.
