Everybody, please, make sure to double and triple check your leash knottes before heading out into the Karl swell. Your life depends on it. Especially you Frost.
Looks pretty moderate though. Less than 10mph for on or cross shores at worst. At least for where I'm looking. I'm gonna hope for the best but only time will tell... Edit: Swellinfo is saying winds are gonna be heavier ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Super light onshore tonight, really not much of a factor. But there were some fun little mushburgers once the tide got half way down. Dusted off the 1967 Gordon and Smith log... that thing is crazy. Super flat except for a generous amount of tail kick. Dead flat deck, pinched rails, and super bellied out the whole way, even under the nose. How the thing noserides SO FREAK'N GOOD I can't explain. Maybe it's just the weight? Heavy core foam and thick volan glass... with a massively thick single stringer... like more than an inch thick. I think the board is a first generation Stretch model, and from what I could read up on it, it's designed as a noserider, but for bigger surf. Trying to figure it out is half the fun!
This morning was similar to yesterday, calm wind, glassy, inconsistent waist high with the occasional stomach / chest high sets rolling in, but there was a wait on those. As the tide is coming in it should be a lot more consistent. I had brought both the LB and SB just in case and glad I did. I figured it would be better this morning but it wasn't quite doing it yet so I went with the LB. I got a couple lefts right as soon as I paddled out and then it went lull for a while so I started pacing back and forth trying to find a bar that was picking it up and finally would get one and then a lull. Some of them were really fun, but nothing spectacular. The best ride I got was my last one, a chest high wall on the outside with lots of room to play. It was a late / steep take off, which gave me all the speed I needed for a nice bottom turn and back up the face to race the section, beat it and did some turns into the next section until it got deep and I rode the inside section in on my belly. Good way to end a mediocre session. This afternoon should be fun.
Fun this morning on the fish. Waist high light wind. It was a little chilly early, but once the sun came on it warmed up nicely. Still clean when I left. Get on it if you can
A little wave out there in NJ but many places are crowded as ****. Everyone in the tri-state area comes to NJ for these waist high days. Don't see that many of them when the juice finally rolls in.
Looking like solid head high sets on the cams in the dirty jerz. Definitely not waist high. Meanwhile it's knee to thigh here in the morning when I spot checked on spot and still and closing out at most of our beaches as per usual. What else is new. Swell should pick up tomorrow. NH is about as much of a surf destination as fundy bay in new brunswick is. Way better surf, way less crowds, and WAY better wide open swell window just a little farther north in Maine. If I lived in NH, I'd never surf NH. I'd go to maine every single swell. Yeah really. Not sure how people are complaining about surfing in nj with head high sets and wide open beach breaks with a jetty break every block. Even with an ESE dead on swell direction from a ground swell, still lots of shoulders. They should come up here to rhody to see some real crowds. I see some cam spots in nj with barely anyone out. They just put up a new cam on lbi. 1 Guy out at 9am on a big spread out break with fun looking peaks. Oh the torturous crowds. haha. You've got basically one packed break at manasquan with almost all the rest of the places are not crowded even ones that have cams and there's a ****load of breaks.
lol maybe a few chest high ones rolling in, head high lmao. I was out earlier with all the bennys ruining my day.
Yeah I admit head high was a bit of an exaggeration, but solid waist to chest, with occasional bigger sets.
It's confirmed, surfing is was more fun that working.... in case anybody was wondering which one was better, it's definitely the surfing. After a slow DP session, the late morning / early afternoon session was much better. The sets are becoming more frequent and there are some larger ones out there if you are in the right spot at the right time. Solid waist - chest with some bigger ones every 10 -15 minutes or so. Should continue to build through the afternoon / evening. Oh and so many f'ing fish in the water it's a little sketch with the bigger ones hitting the bait pods. I was sure I was going to pull back a nub but luckily made it through the session without getting tagged.
Time for a road trip brother, don't have to go all the way to PR, but hop in the car and go somewhere and SURF!
Even though flat here, I looked at the cam for The Wall today--there were still about 60 assholes sitting there, floating uselessly. God....surfers are indeed morons, especially those from Massholia and NH. So I spent the whole day with my daughter and new granddaughter. The baby just fell asleep in my arms for 2 hours while we took a long walk on the beach, observing the aforementioned asshole surfers.....
