Man you guys are all Dawn Patrol warriors, huh? I'm a dusk patrol kind of guy. I like the sun setting not rising in my mother trucking eyes. That 4:00 pm sesh in the winter is the best. Though I rarely get it at that time anymore. Jeez, lately I'm always mid-morning. I figure you dawners will be gone by then. Every time I hit it real early I always lose. Morning sickness. I'm like a 9:00 am type.
I think when surfline gives a wave size, their computer model calculates all the potential waves in entire area of that report. They then give an average of all the waves their model is predicting causing the discrepancy you might see.
Actually, they may be using the NOAA model, which use the average of the top 1/3 largest waves in feet, off of the closest bouy. Whether it is swell size or wave size, is not reported, I believe (but not sure).
I surf when I can. Today the schedule called for an early surf so I went out and hoped for the best. Today happened to be one of those rare days when the swell was much bigger/better than antipated.
CONDITIONS were chunky, semi clean, shortish interval, moderate drift. I got two decent rides, not my best day, but felt pretty lucky to be out there and to be able to paddle out. Sure was nice to see Two SI members and their wives there too! Maybe it got better after I left, let see what the say later on.
This morning was just amazing long period goodness. consistently shoulder high, with bigger sets and beautiful water on the Delmarva. 4 hour sesh - wave count off the chart
Nice also! and I would say yes! I plan on it, Of course that's coming from a dude who missed it today.
It was fun up in Maine today. Tomorrow should be fun until the winds beat the mother loving shiiiiit out of it.
Surfed south shore MA this morning. Chilly out there between the wind and lack of sun. Fun at times, too windy at times. Post surf coffee very necessary. First hood deployment this fall for me. Stiff offshores seem to keep the SUPs largely away which is a plus.
Surfed a solid 4 hous at IRI, nice dawn patrol. Here are a couple pics of a buddy pulling in for some tube time. It was a great day!
