^ Damn you guys are warming up fast. I still had booties and 4/3 a week ago up here. Didn't get out for the start of surf season, though. Red Dog has a better bead on the water temps than I do at this point.
Beautiful AM sesh before work today. Waist high plus and glassy. Water's warming up...past the mid 60s now.
I had a good afternoon session in town and then another good early evening surf down the road in Northern Ocean County after dinner. Missed most of the 1st period of the hockey game, but it was fun. It was a surprisingly un crowded day for how decent the conditions were. The water is very mild for how below average the month of May was. I'm still in boots, which usually come off around 60 degrees. I don't even have a Spring suit, just a 3/2 but I usually start to take it off in the upper 60's and just trunks. Except for maybe dawn patrol or days where the air temps are quite a bit below average. I used to start trunking at 65 degree water temps, even just 5 or 6 years ago. Once I got into my 40's I started not being able to take it. So now it's 67 or 68 at least. Which is like a week or two difference.
Heavy fog this morning. Waves small. Going for bike ride instead of surfing. Maybe surf this PM if wave exists....
bluebird conditions this morning on the Delmarva. This swell was not really forecast to be anything but we've had 2 days of a pretty fun sized longer period (12 sec....east coast standards) swell and good or calm winds.
Tide is dropping and this little swell is still on!!!! Looks like winds will cooperate. Heading to da beach for a late day sesh!!!
Small up here the past 2 days, but worth taking the longboard out. Plus want to stay paddle fit for what looks to be a decent swell coming early next week, we'll see...
Leftovers today... only waist to belly high, but super clean and finally took the gloves off. (not a reference to the "bare knuckle" comment on another treadde) And I think I smacked a bunker with my bare hand. Either a bunker or a lumpfish... it is Jerzy. Two other guys out, plus a knee boarder, who was getting lots of good waves, but wasn't taking advantage of the clean, hollow grinders consistently drilling down the sandbar. The glowing pink sunset bouncing off the water was the best thing that happened to me all day. I think I'll move my fin back 3/8" in the box and see how that feels for next time.
Nice LB. I had to leave before sunset but did surf in the 2mm shirt. A little SE wind made it a bit crumbly but fun.
Fun couple days down here in S. MoCo too, ranging from waist to chest+. I've been riding the mini and it's been fun. Just really feeling the glide and as a twinny she flies. Makes all the sections I need her to. Pretty pumped with how this spring and beginning of summer is playing out. I have faith more is on the way for the buoys.
the month long run of fun overhead surf continues. spent at least 2 hours in the water after work everyday since the start of may.
This has been a pretty good couple weeks in Monmouth County/Jersey. The air temperatures have mostly sucked though, aside from a three day stretch of 90+ degree and record breaking highs and yesterday was a very beautiful and warm day, today is feeling like more of the same. I had two different sessions yesterday and surfed for a combined 5-ish hours. I'm hoping to do the same today, with a break in the mid/late afternoon and back in for the late afternoon/early evening. Having to put a soaked suite back on kinda sucks though. I can't complain about the surf we've had over the last couple weeks. The last two days have been really nice by late May's standards. Wednesday night I had a pretty good spot with just me and 2 friends.
fun couple of days of 1 footers. In all seriousness, the next best thing to getting to go surf myself is taking the two boys out and getting them up onto waves. My 9 yr old has a pretty good understanding of the pop up and gets bigly pumped when he angles and is able to ride along the face for a second or two. First time he did it he had that look on his face that he was hooked. My younger boy is just getting into it but still prefers the sponge. Mainly because he can catch a ride without being pushed into them. It's awesome to see their stoke and listen to them on the ride home and telling momma aboot it
Swell not working right at all here. Offshore, off work, waves, perfect weather and this beachbreak is all wrong for this swell. It hurts.
Finally got some waves just before dark. Nothing crazy but it was 2-3ft and glassy coming off high tide. It was slow at first, I paddled around for an hour and only had one wave come through. As the tide started going out it got more consistent but not much. Then about 30 minutes before dark it turned on and I snagged a handful of waves and called it a night. I rode the LB and got some turns in. Hope it's better in the morning.
Got about 5.5 hours combined in the water today. It's been a fun theee days. Had to use a longbort in my evening session. Looks like we might have a bit more tomorrow as well. I've been wanting to ride my bike the last few nights, but haven't had time with surfing instead. I can't complain about that either.
Fun knee - waist high liners this morning. It was slow coming off high tide early but as the tide went out it got pretty consistent, at least for a couple hours it did. Had to search around for a good bar that was working. A lot of spots just weren't breaking but this spot was. It was your typical summer LB session.
