Flat and more flatness forecasted here for the entire week. Was minimal for much of last week, but I managed to get out once. Water temps have been hovering around low 70s for almost a month. Getting more work done around my folks' house. Mom is now in assisted living, so must get place ready to sell.
surprisingly there was some stomach hi swell yesterday morning before hi tide. it was crumbly, so there were some paddle n misses. but it was semi clean and pumping, so it ended up being a great start to a Sunday. Came back out later that afternoon for lo tide shenanigans, and that's what it was - wipeouts and unforgiving rides
Drove out on Friday night; wind whippin' Sat morn, watched guys getting knocked back off waves then they would just paddle in after 30 mins of that; waited a bit, wind dropped a bit but not much: people's stuff on beach being blown, not thrown, into the water Finally, just went. Vry glad - - late morning sesh was a blast on the big boart. Chest high on sets, lots of clean rights, a few lefts, too. For some odd reason, my Trace device doesn't do too well at TPTSNBN - - maybe it's NSA spooky stuff coming out of Wallops, who knows. Anyways, lotta fun, all by myself with maybe 4-6 guys about 300 yds over on another peak. Afternoon sesh similar, smaller, lots more sideshore, always paddling. Water was effing cold today, even though Mitchell probably trunked it but I had to put the gear on, I'm no good when I get cold. You guys posted great pics from all over - - much appreciated!
Checked the cams at 530am, IRI looked like a lake. The OC Glam Cam looked small with some heavy wind, so I decided to run errands and do adult crap. Then I start getting pics from my bud in OC. I made the wrong decision. UGH Now looks like we are back to Lake Atlantic. I haven't surfed in so long, I may have to stop logging on to SI acting like I surf. HA
Saturday around noon-ish a rain squall rolled through, then around 3ish it stated to clear up. Headed to the outer Cape and the storm offshore created a little bump with light off shores. Not too many people out on a nice sunny afternoon, which cleared out around supper time (also dinner time for the nasty flies ), so I had a peak to my self that for a about a 30 minute window provided some nice thigh/waist rights. This is a picture a bro' took from up on the cliffs (I'm dead center on the nugg). As always, good to get wet, especially on a nice summer day.
Belated congrats to you, Bassmon, on the engagement! Stoked for ya. I was welcomed back to Jerz with a pretty good weekend of waves. I milked the hell out of Sunday's residual swell 2 foot leftovers. Rode my mini simmons on some little peelers all morning long and it was insanely fun. Only one other guy out. First time I really got some good use out of it in small waves. The thing eats fat sections alive and the glide is surreal. A few little cut backs and a couple tiny floaters made my day. Wind was perfectly off shore and the water very clear. Spent the rest of the day beaching it with my lady and her fam. Let the good times roll. I need to find a mini Simmons type board for good waves. The ease of wave riding and glide is too much fun to not have one on everything. If it held in steep barreling waves I would be on it.
Man, good luck & all of that Bassmon....just remember a ring don't plug a hole Make damn sure you have a pre-nup in place before you sign on the line that is dotted.
Hahaha thank you all. She makes more than me at the moment. So don't worry yank. I'll be signing those papers instead of her haha And kan. Iv mentioned this to you before. My mini performs in better waves. Not super steep... but steeper than you'd think. Two things come to mind. One is that sizing is critical if your going to use it in better waves. Something like what you got, but just slimmed out ever so slightly. And two. I like mine in better waves. But i think what i like about it is that it goes toooooo fast. I never thought there was such a thing. But after experiencing a mini on a steep chest/shoulder high wave, i realized there was. So easy to get bucked off or have one tiny hiccup completely throw you off. But i like the challenge and trying to reel it in. So i guess what I'm saying is that what i like about it, isn't exactly a good thing, i just enjoy it.
Oh and one more thing. I should probably be posting this in the "your next surf trip" tread. But whatever. The new fiancee thinks it's not fair that i dropped big bucks on a ring, so I'm getting a surf trip out of it. Thought you guys might find that interesting.
Bass, I actually like mine in bigger waves too, but they can't be pitching heavy. I've had it out in chest to shoulder high sets and it definitely goes, but too hard of bottom turn and I'll slide azz. The twin has me memorized though. It's so skatey. I was thinking about getting a kind of down railed retro/performance fish next to keep that retro glide going, but when its heaving pits I'll probably want my dreamcatcher anyway.
Not gonna spoil the illusion....enjoy, Basser, while the enjoyin' is ripe. It changes. Fore everye man jacke it changes. Peace & dreams, bunky, peace & dreams
