Combo swell has been decent this passed week. Surfed T street today and dude told me they closed beach on Monday due to an 8' shark spotted near pier and they droned it all the way down to T st. Surfed Swamis earlier in week couple of sessions. Got 3 hours this morning until they blac, balled da beach. Surfed evening yesterday around 15th in Del Mar and it was actually pretty fun...looks like more of the same tomorrow.
Went out for an hour-plus paddle before work yesterday and manged to catch a half dozen knee high dribblers. Dolphins were close in to shore chasing breakfast. Pelicans and osprey too. A peasant morning before the crowds hit, but not much surf-wise. For past month, water temp has been around 70.
Flat today again in Cow Hampshire. Need a break from biking, surfing , weight lifting anyway. Back is way out- I can feel a misalignment in my lower vertebrae; this one has me worried. Can't even pick up my guitar without screaming. Time for a pill , I guess. At least the family is all here for the weekend!!
Barry, this may sound a bit odd, butt it's likely your pelvic ring is slightly out of alignment which is putting your back into spasm. Easy repair: learned this one from my PT - - the 'fix' is simple: on your back, feet on floor, knees at 45 degree angle (pointing up) & knees are together; do a bridge to line everything up, then lower yourself back to on the floor, keeping knees together; have your wife or someone then hold your knees together whilst you try to push your knees outwards motion for 10 secs. Repeat x3. I know, I know....sounds odd, butt it works & you'll feel relief in a few hours, definitely by manana. In future maneuvers you may also try to have your wife, ahem, on top, that's where you may be knocking your pelvic ring out of alignment. And yes, I realize this isn't the medicale advisemente treade & I apologize, buoys & Bettye.
Chiropractor, Mr. Barry. A good one can work miracles. Used ta have a female Canadian chiropractor. She would do x-rays, show em to ya, and say "See that right there? I'm gonna do this, and that. This won't be pushin on that any more, and you're gonna feel WAY better." Then she did and I did. She was a rowdy somebody. From Toronto. Loved her Maple Leafs. License plate holder and everything. No pills, just thumpin and movin sh!t. Esta bien.
I agree with Yankee Barry. I have back issues. Keeping the pelvis/hips loose (as well as hamstrings) really keeps the pain away and keeps tension off my lower back. Although my back issues are muscle related. I'm not a doctor so I'm not sure if it'll help of you have vertebrae issues. Regardless, i hope your feeling better soon. Looks like a few possible surfing opportunities over the next few days. Hope everyone scores a little something this weekend
I def agree with the exercises. Chiro told me to do this squat exercise to stretch, align, whatevs, my lower back. I still do em every time I go out in the water. Stand flat footed, squat straight down until yer butt nearly touches the ground, or as low as you can get. Don't fall over! I'm a scrawny fvcker so I almost touch. Then reach out your arms straight in front of ya as far as they can go, hands together. You WILL feel yer lower back stretchin. Chill while breathing in yer nose and out yer mouth. Keep tryna reach farther in front and relaxing. Maybe do this for a minute or so. Then stand up. If ya really wanna get loosie, then reach down and touch yer toes, or as far as ya can go. Same breathing, in yer nose, out yer mouth, while chillin. Nobody likes ta stretch, but it really does help, especially when we ain't 25 any more. Now yer ready ta go chargin.
Ya guys, thanks, but I do a lot of all that prophylactically. Except the cowgirl hat. It's already getting better, but, whatever it was, the pain was similar to be stabbed with a 6 inch stiletto. Been stretching all day, and just finished a calm slow walk. Pills helped relax the situation, so, Im good to go. But.......I still think youz all a bunch of morons!!!! (Gotta keep my reputation intact!)
That board is what he was paid by the publishing company of The Origin of Species, right after publication in 1859. It was handcrafted with wood from the HMS Beagle.
Yoga Barry. I use to clown it, now I NEED to do it to keep my back and neck from acting up. I feel like a million bucks after. The stretching combined with deep beathing and breath hold does some type of magic on me body. I learned a few things from YouTube and now I have my own routine I do about 5 days a week for about 30-45 minutes each time. It's helping my surfing too, bonus.
9 of the crew met up yesterday, despite the dire prediction of ankle high glassy. But, it's "know but still go" and "Betty would go", so, Go we did. Occasionally a shin high rogue wave appeared and I was ready for it. The ride was short but sweet. While I still need a wheelchair to reach the ocean, yesterday showed def improvement in ability to move on the ocean. I guess I got 6 rides out of it, triple what I could endure a week ago. We were treated to manatee, a large Ray cruising and a stunning shell in the crystal clear ocean. But mainly, due to conditions, we had the ocean all to ourselves, lending a fun, cut up, element to the morning. Keeping the stoke alive by focusing on beauty, what's possible, and the glow of surfing friendship.
Well, I have been doing some yoga, but just few positions which my wife showed me; have been doing them for a few years now. So you are correct. And I too used to spoof yoga, but then an injury, you try it along with Physical Therapy exercises (many of which are same or similar), and you are then a convert.
The only sea life we see here are Clorox bottles, diapers, and an occasional shopping cart, considered a very rare species in the Animal Kingdom (Cartus Metalicus). Other than that, it's the usual fare of bikinis, bikinis and more bikinis, even when its cold. This morning sea temps are 55*F--NWS is sending out "Beach Warnings" to bathers because water temps are unusually cold. Severe upwellings and a cold Spring are the reasons (winds offshore continuously blows surface waters out to sea, sucking deep water to the shore.....).
Glad to hear your making improvements betty! You've got the prefect mindset. Very positive. Just getting out there is therapy in itself. Today was fun. Better than i thought it would be. Winds were onshore or sideshore. I don't really know. But they were light. Faces were clean though the lines were a bit sloppy. Waist high with some bigger stomach/nipple high guys. The lefts looked good but most just teetered out and didn't offer much umph, except for a few. The rights were more scarce but offered a much better wave that you could get a few turns in on. Met up with two buddy's. Just enjoyed the waves and cracking jokes with one another. As is expected in summer, about 2 hours in it turned into kook city again. Dudes on LBs that are constantly dropping in or getting in the way or doing something stupid. That was my cue to call it. Think i will pass on tomorrow since i got work and it doesn't look like anything special. But I'm thinking i might head to my favorite spot on Tuesday. It's s hard to get to "point". Crazy good wave with the right conditions. Although small, Tuesday looks like it should be a good day to head there. Fingers crossed.
Buxton, sw wind swell, warm clean water, no crowd, had it virtually all to myself the past 10 days, though 3 of those days were pretty awful. After a long year of cancer treatment, getting my health back, this place is an escape from the jersey shore i call home.
Cool, so you have tried it some. YouTube yoga for back pain and yoga for surfers. You'll find a few vids, most with a tight body female to keep you "engaged".
anybody know what those red jellyfish are that kind of look like a slice of watermelon?seen a bunch of them yesterday, never seen them before but they were all over the place.they were probably 18 inches in diameter
No idea. But i duck dove a wave today and came up with something on my head. I think a jelly. When it fell off i couldn't find it. About one or two days every summer the ocean turns into what feels like oatmeal. Literally the water is covered in what appears to me to be tiny baby jelly fish. It only lasts a day or two. But you literally can't touch the water without touching hundreds of these things. You guys get that in your area?
