Both west and south winds can do so. It depends on the bathyscaphe...

west winds are blowing the warm water out to sea while east winds are pushing cold atlantic water towards shore.south winds make the water warmer

Depends on your location and compass orientation of the beach you are standing on.....

It's been pretty flat for a while now, but there is always something fun going on at the ocean. 6 of us met up to check it out. It's never good if the parking lots empty and you can't hear the waves breaking. My buddies drove me down and 3 of them wheeled me to the water, helped me clean up and get home. That's true friendship!

Inseemed to last a bit longer than the past two weeks...The ocean chilled down to 78 which helps. It was nearly flat at first, but then for about 20 minutes, some shin to knee high glassy waves came through, beyond where the webcam scans. Anyone watching would've assumed, unrideable.

It was a thrill to be able to pop up on 4 waves, get a nice floaty feeling as the board made its way left. And to share it with friends on an empty beach was priceless.

I was loving what Bassmon said about the excitement of any wave! That's so true-- I see it in many of the guys, and they're always smiling. Life is so much richer if you can enjoy any wave that comes your way.

There's talk of a little bump next weekend. I would like to test drive it :)

We had a couple days a couple weeks ago that were shortboard days. Felt really good... But since then, I've been logging or using the fish. Yesterday was fun on the longboard... except I broke the BLEEF fin sisurfdogg sent me (sorry brother... like I said, pick something out and let me know). It was an interesting experiment... until catastrophic failure sent me in finless.

I think he is trying to explain Ekman transport. For us here it is a SW wind primarily causing upwelling.

Got in Saturday morning. a bit of SE drift, but the waves were manageable for the early hi tide. had a couple turns and some pockets to ride in. two very short sessions, but i was at the beach to run an errand in between. Later that day, pulled a muscle tendon in calf of my leg by longboarding the streets - freak incident fo sure. missed on Sunday's cleaner version of waves. hoping to recuperate for the bump we get later in the week

Surfed 7 of the last 8 days. Incredibly small, but something to ride each day. Unfortunately I fractured a toe yesterday, so not sure I'll be able to keep the trend going. Maybe with some clever taping and a boot.

Sorry about your toe, I tweaked my knee shooting hoops last week. Still a little swelling and stiffness but it's getting better, I think.

Oh jayyyysuusss...you guys are turning into old wimpy geezers.
Never seen a board with more injured middle aged geezers.......
Maybe if you didn't smoke all that dope, you would not have erred in your jump shot, assuming you can even get off the ground....<grin>

Got your trolling motor on high today do ya? lol I landed funny when I came down after going baseline and driving to the hoop and going for the layup with my left hand (i'm a righty). As soon as I hit the ground I knew I landed wrong and walked away with my knee / leg feeling weird, not in pain, but it felt like it was twisted. Pain and swelling came the next day and is slowly dissipating. Thanks for your concern Doc! Yeah, getting old sucks.

    Being old sucks even worse.
A few weeks ago, I was surfing, by myself very early 5AM, and I saw a round thing floating near shore; rode a wave to it, and it is a Spalding leather basketball; says NBA on it. Perfectly good.
Haven't used it yet, for exactly what happened to you. But I will give it to my surfing buds twin sons, aged 8--they will love to have it

You found a B ball in the surf? WTF? I found some weird things on the beach every now and then that washed on shore. Crazy what's out there. My knee should be fine, I'll be back out there soon. I have a full court in my neighborhood and it's free so it's something to do when there aren't any waves.

North Side of IRI this early AM. FLATEST ocean ever. Now in OC MD waiting and hoping for a ride-able bump at mid tide(around 6 PM)
Heading out at zero dark thirty tomorrow for TPTSNBN.

I got a mallet finger a few years ago, and I taped it to a waterproof splint the OT gave me. I found that Johnson and Johnsons narrow , not wide, waterproof tape worked. Just wrapped it repeatedly and then anchored it by wrapping around the hand. Pop ups were dicey, but worked.

You maybe could do it with your toe and Foot. Might not need or want a splint. After all, the waves are calling you.

Thanks. Ironically, I searched "surfing with fractured toe" and stumbled on an older post of yours reccomending that tape; which I bought last night. Hit the beach with it buddy taped to the next toe today. Waves were junk, but I paddled out and caught a couple just to see how it felt, and it seemed fine. It's only the 4th toe, which I think is pretty unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

Im sitting poolside now with the same 6 hour tape job holding strong, so Thanks! There's a tiny bump up predicted in a couple days, and I definitely want to be sure I can surf it.
