no sand recon? theres now 3 different sandbars at IOp im guessing IRma moved some stuff as it used to be only one way out in front of the pier
scored a few on the incoming tide yesterday afternoon behind a jetty to get out of the wind. crazy how warm the water is...there was a bit of mist and a breeze, thought it might be wise to pull on a s/s full and was roasting hot the entire time. Fun lefts on a fish.
Matunuk looks like a gray Ehukai beach park today. Absolutely firing A-frames, looks about 8-feet on the face.
a couple of rights at the Point Judith lighthouse yesterday. Some size, a little inconsistent, and some cross wave texture but a whole lot of fun and was sweating in my 3/2. Its been really good lately and there is no signs of it slowing down. If the Global model holds for Maria we are in for Epic September waves.
maybe I missed the joke, but I'm 100% sure that's photoshoped. There's some blur around the lamps at the end of the pier and the spray in front of the pier is a little sketchy. Anyway, a wave like that, that's already breaking over the end of the pier, would take out at least those first couple of lamps and take the roof off the little building....then the waves behind it would finish it off. Nice fake, though.
Surfed the east side of RI after school today. Didn't have much time so I couldn't get to the spot I wanted to. Ended up surfing a beach that was way maxed out for about an hour before the sun set. Waves were a couple feet overhead and all over the place. Every once and a while a perfect right running barrel came through, but I didn't catch any quality waves.
I'm expecting Assateague to really get messed up by this...back to big deep trough, outer bar setup. Hope I'm wrong, but it seems like every fall this happens, and maybe happening a bit early this year
I was in parking lot getting my stuff together to paddle out,2 guys next to me are talkin like barrel riders ,next car over three young girls and their dad get out ,these guys are talking trash.when they finally got out the three young girls were out too,the two macho boys floated around scared to take a set wave, the smallest of the three girls she was maybe 12 first wave she took off on was a fat one and well there it is dude karma ,they scored some waves the chumlies did not.
Got out this morning right before high tide. Wow, just wow. It was chest to head high and just reeling down the sand bar. Still a lot of close outs and the bar is shifting around so I had to go down a couple blocks from where I normally paddle out. Lots of guys out for that break but just two other guys on the peak I was at. There were some non close out barrels but mostly just zen-like walls of perfection. Man, I had fun. Now I'm at work with a big smile on my face. Great day to be a surfer here. Best wishes to those in Marias path and to any fisherman that may have to get through Jose to get home..
Looked at it during a qiuck brake...ehhh. Suprisingly not super large, tho tide was high and strong angle. May head north if i can.
Getting windy but its still firing on South Facing beaches. My boss is starting to wonder if I'm ever coming back.
I'm out until Tuesday due to an ear infection. But I've never seen such a consistent, good run of surf in the two years I've lived here. Man alive has Matunuck looked like it is firing. Every damn day. I can only imagine what some of the Newport reefs must be looking like. I'm not going to look; no need to torture myself like that. Poor me.
LOL @ Barry. So I went out last Tuesday (like 8 days ago) and ate it hard on a head high or so wave. Fell flat right on my ear hard enough that I wondered if I had actually busted my ear drum. After that, and for the next three days, I simply could not get all the water out of my ear; just a stuffed with cotton feeling that I couldn't fix. Went to my regular doc on Thursday who confirmed an ear infection, but said he could barely see my ear drum because of all the bone growth in my ear....surfer's ear I understand now. So he gave me drops and told me to stay out of the water until "I was better." Stayed out Thursday, but Friday put a ear plug in and surfed for about an hour in thigh high slop. TBH, I could barely get a seal with the plug and, between us, it kind of hurt putting it in there (I know, I'm teeing this up). Saturday, after I got the new boart, I had to surf so I did 3 hours at Second Beach with the ear plug. At the conclusion of that session my ear felt like it was on fire, stuffed, hurt like hell. The ear drops stung the **** out of my whole ear. Sunday I was essentially deaf, and in pain, and pretty bummed. Got an appt. with a specialist on Tuesday, who cleaned out my ear with some suction thing, gave me better ear drops, and said, "Stay out at least one week." I'm a dumb surfer, but even I can learn. I'm not going to f with my hearing...I'm staying out till next Tuesday. That feeling of a broken ear absolutely sucked. Not sure what the long term solution for the surfer's ear will be. Debating on the ear plug vs. just eventually getting my ears drilled. Option C might be to just move to Florida after my California tour is over. It's all a bummer, but if I follow doctor's orders hopefully I won't miss next week's Maria swell. Had I just listened to the doctor in the first place, I'd probably be better by today and hitting Matunuck. Lesson learned.
