North winds don't upwell cold water. N/Ne bring in warm water from the Gulf or Gulph stream. Not being cocky, just don't want Johnny the gremmie to pack a steamer if it's blowing NE in July. And I really don't know how people have been gloveless in Jersey for the past month. The water really never has gone above 58 F. More like 55-56 F. And that is glove temps....
Riley...you didn't miss much, but had a fun sunset session Saturday...we went up way later than usual, lurked around the fog at night..
I'd really consider moving to the OBX if it weren't for the water temps. I just can't wrap my head around the 58 degrees when about 100 miles or so south at my house it's 80 degrees. Got in 3 straight days of fun stomach high waves with occasional chest sets. There were still some waist high lines when I checked it earlier but I'm sunned out and sore.
Yeah I wasn't being flaky on the surf scene.... And when I axed if y'all was going, after I declined, Captain went "Nooo..." So I was glad I didn't. Don't want to come between a new couple. But glad you went down later. Dusk is my favorite session, well Fall, Winter and Spring it is. F THE DAWN PATROL....it never works. I went out yesterday. 3-4' South chop......yee haw. Hurt my side some more. Now it hurts when I breathe. And when I cough from smoking. But physical pain is sometimes cute. When you've been dopesick 100 times, normal stuff is kind of cute...... Broke down on The River Line ( The Drug and Indigent Line) in lovely Beverly, NJ on the way home. Another car that was headed north bound had to tow it. When they went to join cars, the new-comer has to kind of bang into the broken down car.... So when that happened, some drug/indigents banged her head and supposedly her baby's head too(on the arriving train). So, then she went after the train conductor(driver) threatening to beat his arse. Then the cops came.... You guys with licenses are missing out big time.
Nah all good amigo...glad we got to hang anyway. How was the ride home otherwise, anything interesting from your snack?
Well, I saw the first interesting people on the Metro North. Some big dude who kept walking through every car axing for four dollars... " I need aboot three-fifty...plus fifty" Then I had a stunning transgendered "gal" on my car. So, she was male and is now female, sort-of. And then she had a girlfriend. So, "he" was straight but wanted to be a lesbionic? Weird. Of course she's originally from my area so I don't know if CT gets credit for that one..... Thank God for my snack or I would have been an angry fellow hanging in Beverly. There's crack in Beverly for God's sakes. Like, on the corners. But nothing like hanging out with the neighborhood kids attracted to the action.
Dang. I was just thinking to myself "now would be a great time to head to Hatteras for like a 4 day hit and run mission when they are supposed to get a little swell...spring suit, cruise the sand and maybe look for a peak. BUT NO, you done ruined it for me. I don't wanna wear a 3/2 down thur.
I stopped wearing a spring suite a few years ago...replaced it with a 2mm short sleeve full suite. Just a personal preference, but I like it so much better. Might have something to do with the infamous Nut Crawl that springsuits are famous for.
Ahhh Kidde Rocque I had to click the attachement to see the pic, that was an excelsior day indeed, lotta fun!
My buddy surfed in trunks yesterday south of Oregon Inlet. It can be 10 degrees plus difference when compared to Town/KDH/Nags Head etc. There were a few brave souls in trunks where I surfed but not me It could still be chilly on certain days in late June. Like Riley said the NE winds don't cause upwelling. Typically hard offshores will blow all the warm surface water out (causing the upwelling) and conversely a NE wind could actually warm it up b/c of the gulf stream.
Can argue with that....I hate getting cold in the water but endure the pain for the gain each winter!
water temps were all over the place this weekend. On friday I wore a full suit and booties in vb, and was not warm. Saturday went down to nags head where it was brisk but trunkable with a top. Woke up sunday am, same spot in nags head, water temp was down in the 50's. Some ****bag stole my 1mil top off of the handrail so we just went to rodanthe where the water was in the 70's. Trippy.
Went for some NE onshore bowls this afternoon, water temps shot up and the swell was chunky and fun but tough to find the right pockets to get clean turns off. Glad I went
went out today 1-2 on on the reforms get about a hack or little floater on them is all and have to kick out because your in knee deep water, still fun. its nice its not flat in june.
Surfed Sunday and Monday morning on fun thigh to waist high waves. As the day went along tons of newbs came out. I've never seen more softtops.
