To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep; No more; and by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep; To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub; For in that sleep of death what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause: there's the respect That makes calamity of so long life; For who would bear the whips and scorns of time, The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely, The pangs of despised love, the law's delay, The insolence of office and the spurns That patient merit of the unworthy takes, When he himself might his quietus make With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear, To grunt and sweat under a weary life, But that the dread of something after death, The undiscover'd country from whose bourn No traveller returns, puzzles the will And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of? Thus conscience does make cowards of us all; And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, And enterprises of great pith and moment With this regard their currents turn awry, And lose the name of action.--Soft you now! The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons Be all my sins remember'd.
I just read and re-read that, several times to understand it well. Bill had so much to say in so little time on Earth.
Drove across the street. Caught three waves and changed in a hot shower....otherwise I would not have even bothered.....it was coooold and windy. https://i.imgur.com/0ApDtB0.jpg https://i.imgur.com/C28z96w.jpg
Went on a strike mission late this afternoon in S. Moco. And a mission it was. Roads were so screwed, it was a hectic job crawling my way to the beach, but I own a Jeep and good winter tires. By the time I drove out and got to the beach the snow and gusts were still coming down in the 40 mphs range. Just myself and two other buds. No one else in sight except for the stray passbyer braving the white abyss. The paddle out was fairly easy, it definitely looked hairy from the beach. But the current and wind were fast and it was so COLD. Didn’t help that my gloves have some gnarly holes in them. Got three rides in the 50 minutes I was out; one a deep gouging barrel. That made it all worth. Not sure how much this swell will hang around with the strong offshores. It would be nice to get some tmrw though.
Dug out after I saw cam at 3 firing. Took 45 min as I live in condo and had to dig a path through a parking lot. Plow still hasn’t showed at 9:30 and we pay for that bs. Got 2 good waves then decided it was less painfull to paddle back out vs walking up the beach. Got 2 more really good ones. All long left barrels came out of the last one. Was def worth it.
As I've explained before. I usually work long hours. I can't make a 2:45 AM flight because I usually don't wind up getting done with work until after midnight, which doesn't leave me enough time to get to the airport, go through security, check bags, etc. Especially not through JFK, which is where these red eye flights tend to leave at 2:00-5:00 AM. I literally work until 2:30 AM some nights. So if there was a day time flight, I could get on it the next morning or afternoon, no problems at all. But since it's a red eye, I have to wait a whole day off, which is wasted, then get on the flight. And the red eye on the way back? That leaves me back home literally 2-3 hours before I have to be back to work, unless I wanna take the one the day before and waste another day off. So I literally don't have time for those when all I've got is 4 days to fool around with. Those 4 days become 2 or 3 after those red eye flights. And that's exactly what the flights are like heading from the New York airports to Costa Rica, which is what I looked at last year and tried for last February when I had a few days off. San Juan is much more convenient for those daytime flights.
Nice! Did you get a lot of snow? I’m out of town on business right now, won’t be back until early the early evening. I’m hoping it’s a mess because the last thing I wanna do after a few days out of town is shovel the driveway. Is it really a foot? Saw on the totals it was 10 inches in some places. 16.5 inches in Howell? Manasquan has 1.5 and 12. Not sure why two different totals, so far from one another. Haven’t talked to anyone back home.
I don’t live in a condo, but I know what you mean. You pay for that in your homeowners association fees (I’m assuming) and they never come! Glad you guys got a nice snow session! I’ve had some good ones in the past. I used to love hooking up a sleigh to the back of my truck and pulling my buddies on it through the snow or having them pull me on it. As long as cops aren’t around!
Hard to say what’s actual snow vs wind drift but my driveway was thigh deep just outside asbury. Started shoveling around 3, did not get car out till it was dark, missed session because of it.
Thanks! That sucks! I know what you mean. When the wind starts blowing it around it’s two or three feet in some spots and one or two inches in others.
Gotcha. That makes sense... That sucks. I have always taken the midnight flight out of JFK to get a full day out of my first day.
It’s definitely something that I’d be down for if I had more than 3 days. Leaving Monday morning and have to be back by Friday around noon, so I’ll be on a dreadfully early flight back Friday morning!
That overnight from JFK, when I have taken it, I am walking around the first day as if I were drunk. I do not do well if I don't get a good nights sleep, so....I fly to SJU and do the drive. But then again, I have the time to do it as I am not locked in to a tight schedule Hope you and your kids, and your lady, are well NYNJ. I missed your cynicism when you were out...
Thanks O Barry... I missed having an outlet for my cynicism as well. Wifey and kids are great and and growing fast (the kids not the wife)... Holidays were especially fun since the 2.5 year old was excited about it for the first time. I sure the holidays were fun for you this year as well with the granddaughter.
waves looked epic yesterday.didnt get to go out or even near the water just checked the surf cams from the time I got home til it was dark.yesterday sucked, had to work, had to drive back home in my car that drifts everywhere lol.they did a great job on the roads today tho
Just had my best session in weeks!! Granted it was only about 20 minutes long, and the waves were 1-2 feet and struggling to break with the high tide, but got a couple 5-10 second knee high cruisers on the longboard and after not surfing since christmas eve I am pretty damn stoked.
I suited up, drove to beach, looked at it, determined it wasn’t very inviting and would probably be better in a couple hours and pulled a Barry and went home. I could have paddled out and got a dozen mush burgers but I just wasn’t feeling it.
