Scored head high sets from Thursday through Saturday in PR, crackers. Warm water, board shorts, and no wife to bag me...its been a good few days. no tubes, but plenty of rippable walls. Stayed around surfers beach for the most part
Oh, and as an edit, I also bring some J&J baby powder (talcum powder). I really hope I don't get vaginal/ovarian cancer.....
Finally got to soak the soul this morning. Only waist high but clean and at the right tide. Offshores picked up and were a bit much late morning but still lots of fun rides. Feels like it has been forever since we had a good day. Swell looks like it will lingr a few days, hopefully the fucast cleans up some
Took the 4'10 out just now. It was 2-4' with a little bigger on the set & negative low tide. short period east coast type of waves. I honestly wish I had my shortboard out there... Cons: Fins are so small, went to bottom turn and completely slid out there is no pumping on this board. you go or you dont. It's like a skim board. Pros: I got the board on sale and didnt have to pay full price? In all seriousness, I see this thing being a blast in 2-3' high tide ground swell. Imma keep this one in the quiver for a little.
Did not get many pics on my last trip to PR but got to love an under called swell. This is Wildo. Not as clean as it gets but shows there was some fun sized waves to be had when all the forecasts said 2-3ft "poor" Sets this day were well overhead but consistent chest to head all day.
Sitting at my terminal in Ft. Lauderdale as I write this. Just finished up spending a weekend at my dads in Boca with my gal. Wasn’t fortunate enough to luck into any good swells, but we did head north to Ft. Pierce inlet on Sunday. Caught some shin to knee high peelers on a 9’ foamie. I was just happy to be out of the 5 mil and in 80+ degree weather. Aside from that we hung with my pup, did some sightseeing, swimming, gambling and good eating, etc. Life, for me, ain’t always about the waves, it’s about trying to enjoy the whole journey. I see many strike missions to FL waiting in my future. Yeehaw.
Its kinda been an uneventful winter here in FL. The upside to the lack of low-pressure systems, cold-fronts, etc is the amazing weather we've been getting. You'll find a lot of things to keep yourself occupied outdoors in between swells. But we will see what March can bring. As I type this, a fun ESE swell is just filling in.
Always was under impression that Florida, for surfing, usually sucks during an El Nino year. This is an El Nino year. NH sucks every year, whether Nino, Nina, Madre, padre. For surfing....it just sucks. The "a-hole" of surfing= NH.
There were some good days here and there since start of the year but we haven't had an epic run yet, it's coming in March.
