    Yes, I am a moron.

But I got some great waves today!

Late afternoon, finished my project for da man, and went to my local. One idiot getting towed into waves that were three foot OH on sets. Heavy drift with some light side shore. Walked way up the beach, got a rip out, way out (low tide) and got the goods.

    But....

On the way out, there was a couple sketchy dudes in the parking lot scoping tings out. So instead of taking my backpack, I locked it, my wallet, clothes, keys towel in the car....you can see where this is heading....

and just took my keys, and there was a nice old couple sitting in a cabana, and I asked them if they minded if I buried my keys along side the rear post of the wooden frame, and they were all cool, probably thinking "I hope he drowns".

So an hour and a half and and several OH plus long fast backside lefts, I come back and the cabanas are empty and all lined up in a row, the beach guys did their job. My keys were gone. My two buddies helped me scour the area, no sign. Heavy sand reconne! Now to make matters worse, I dropped my wife off at a resort so she could have a drink and chill while I hit it. So one of my friends went and got her, and she started yelling and cussing me on the beach fro being a moron. All I could do was agree.

Long story short, a friend got us home, I called a locksmith, and now I have a new key and and those waves cost some jack. Life is goode .

Hey SI, next time rent a metal detector to turn up those keys. Likely cheaper than a locksmith, maybe not, but just a suggestion.

Similar thing happened to me when shoveling snow back during the winter of Snowmageddon. Keys fell into a drift somewhere in a parking lot, after spending an hour looking, rented a metal detector for $40 & bingo, in minutes.

Yankee, I was thinking last night that maybe I should buy one and give my
number to all the beach cabana guys and the hotel front desks and the dockmasters on Singer Island.
Have detector, will travel! I may get an underwater one, lots of keys and watches fall off docks around here.

It's uncanny. If you met her, the two of you would get along famously. Although she is a bleeding heart dyed in the wool liberal. It would make for some interesting conversation.

    "You're a moron!"

    "No, You're a moron!"

you can get those industrial strength combination lockboxes online for like 40 bux, they wrap around your axel or similar in your car and no one will get it off without industrial strength bolt cutters. Good alternative, becasue anyone trying to take your keys would have an easier time just breaking your window and hotwiring the *****.

I just stash my keys in a solid spot, but if a sketch ball is lurking i just sit and smoke and stare him down till he leaves.

    gotta be the alpha sketch

Good advice all the way around. Next time I'll walkup to them and start bumming money, joints etc. While
    scratching my face.

Sometimes all you need is a shallow sandbar

Oh and flakka...heavy on the flakka

i feel like you just use the same picture of fun westcoast surf everytime haha

Today was fun on the right coast where i was at, I take back everything i said before to shark hunter about the spot referenced in the other thread. i love that spot especially when its not that crowded and fun like it was today. First real good session since my knee got plowed, the fish was the perfect call.

surfed today in chest+ onshore junk. left my gloves at home. This is the kind of winter where you can forget your gloves at home and still surf two hours without bumming.
