no complaints at all. except i got some buddies that live pretty close by that i don't surf with much anymore because they got waves in front of thier houses and i have waves in front of mine.
Nah man I didn't take it that way...perspective is a funny thing tho, in regards not surfing with your buddies nearby. I'd bring spliffs if you let me camp in your backyard
Exactly. Surfers are creatures of habit, especially when you find what suits you. I would surf the same 2-3 spots, all within walking distance from my house 90% of the time. People would invite me to go elsewhere all the time, I would almost always decline. Nope, im good, I know that spot X is exactly where I want to be now. Why waste time driving and looking, when what you are staring at is perfect. I wouldn't call that lazy, I would call that calculated. It's basically, am I going to surf the jetty, the pier or the reef point? Like SS said, that was a great problem to have. It was all the guys I knew that would say "Ohh, its too small, ohh its too windy, ohh its too big" all the time. Those were the lazy ones. The ones that want to go get coffee and have a big breakfast before we paddle out, and ohh, lets drive down the cliffs and check every spot. Those were the lazy ones, buying time, when inevitably, they let you paddle out alone anyway. The over-all laziness of so many "surfers" I knew just got to the point where I would almost never plan to go to a spot with someone, or drive somewhere or plan anything. It was always, swell is hitting tomorrow, I will be at this place at this time. See you there if you want to join, but I am not going to waste 2 hours with you guys "checking" spots and wasting time.
Yup... Dude, Calsbad is firing right now. So is OB. Come to North County. No. Come to OB. Its so good up here. Its always better down here. Alright bro. Have fun.
I live an hour away what's worse is I have a bay right near me so I see the ocean but there's no waves anyone who lives walking distance from the beach I envy you never take for granted what you have I would love to come home from work and just go out no matter what the conditions and if there that bad I just get out and go home the only thing that works in my favor is I work 30 mins away from the beach so if its firing (like tomorrow) I can take a quick drive
I lived 5 minutes from the beach (10 from both of my main breaks) for the past 13 years. But I have been driving (by car and Harley) 2 and 1/2 hours to and from work every day for the same time. Now, I live 2 hours from the beach but only drive 15 minutes one way to work every day. Since the move about a month ago, I've surfed almost as much as I did before. I'll take the trade off. My job enables me to 'sneak away' for surf so I am lucky. Plus, Pennsyltucky isn't as bad as you would think. I lived here as a kid (in DELCO) and have hunted, fished, and mountain biked it's hills for decades. The ordinary, hard-working people seem pretty cool too. It's only when they vacation in NJ/DE/MD/NC that they turn into idiots!
Saw the title of these pics and remembered this post. Tailgate Teepees Photo: Devine another cool shot. Nothing like a tailgate air show. Jeffery Myers. Photo: Devine.
