    Damn, Hayduke goin' off.

Guys, this was a worthwhile debate for a bit there, un-hijacked by the extremists, idealists, and children. Unfortunately it was not about surfing but it was a worthwhile debate.

Emass, you're selling health so you can absolve yourself of the outsourcing bullsh*t, but you are still a salesman. I'm not gonna call you out on anything, but I will say this: your way of 'winning' is not suitable for everyone, and, in addition, it is actually exploitative of many people, and terrible for this earth, and our very society, despite the fact that this society owes much of it's success to it. The world looks good through Emass colored glasses, but most people ain't wearin' em.

We get it, it works for you. So feel free to wear your A-team jersey. You like the taste of Kool-Aid. But you don't have to climb atop the podium and spray everyone with the f*ckin bottle.

In other words: "Don't let success go your head."

lol so comical. In what, actual way am I exploiting people? If you think I'm an actual "salesman" as you guys are using the term, I'm far from it. I don't sell merchandise. I have no connection to any sweatshops or manufacturers. Does that clear anything up for you bro? I've said 5x already in this tread that I use "salesman" as a metaphor for people who WORK RELENTLESSLY UNTIL THE JOB IS DONE but you buoys are insisting that means only Wolf of Wall St. or Alibaba terms.

Another case of an off-topic tread taken way too seriously and 9 people in a room squaking about not the same thing and in 10 different languages. metard, I'm in for the WH gig. Save me an apron bro.

Dude, as I said, I'm not calling you out on anything specific. I never said you were exploitative. I'm just trying to say that your focus is a bit narrow. You and Hayduke have both chased different kinds of success in incredibly different ways, and both are commendable and admirable. F*ck, sometimes even I almost buy your spiel.

Nonetheless, the 100% positive, 'type-A,' winner-takes-all, 'everyone-is-rewarded-for-their-hard-work" outlook is fine, but it's incredibly narrow. It doesn't reflect the world we live in. And most people that maintain that outlook are terrible for our society and planet. I'm not saying you're one of them, but if you can't see that yet, you are going to get some backlash from people who do. Maybe you need to travel more, or do some volunteer work. Maybe you already have.

I never intended to trash your way of life, or career. I'm just trying to get you to expand your horizons man.

No doubt braddah. Literally all I do is travel and work hard to better others. It's my career at this point. Honestly, I put in an enormous amount of effort even setting up the situation of the opportunity to better others. If you understand that conundrum at all lol

Further, you'd be surprised/pleased to know that my existence and way of life is a lot closer to McCall's in certain ways than you currently think it may be.

    Check out..

#1. Check out brian tracy on youtube. Taught me everything i know.
#2. Shut up and listen to the customer. They should be talking 98% more than you are. Be quiet. More that you listen, the more they like you. If they like you they will buy.
    #3. Establish repoire first.
    #4. Establish repoire first.
#5. Repoire means common ground. "You like horses, I do to". Mirroring works wonders.
I was the top salesman at a major company, the above works dude.

#s three and four are critical.

    The classic salesman's repoire.

'Poire'; from Old French peire, from Vulgar Latin pira, from the plural of Latin pirum, considered as a feminine singular.

    Noun
    1) French for 'pear'

I have always been good with that part of it. I am just not good at being dishonest, which makes sales difficult.

Then you're selling the wrong schitt bro. Gotta sell what you fully believe in to the core, then they can feel your juice when you're kickin it.

    Rapport is everything.

Rapport is important in alot of situations. However, the stronger you are at building value, overcoming objections, and controlling the conversation, the less rapport matters. It's all about making sense.

When your selling big tickets to c-level execs... a sales call is a sales call.. they don't give a f*ck about you, and any attempt to build rapport is usually seen as a cheap/weak tactic that will usually cost you the sale.

It's almost like the rapport is the mutual and unspoken agreement that "we both have a job to do on this call". If your seen as doing your job as a sales person well, you are respected. The respect becomes it's own kind of rapport...

I hear ya. Learning how to shape a fresh stick in high school would have been the shyt.
Dude, training the blue collar to write code ain't gonna help anything. India will get all those jobs for the next decade or so.
The current business model needs to be flipped upside down to substantiate this economy. Remember Slick Willy and his boys facilitating business with China in the early 90s? That wasn't even THAT long ago, yet, look at where we are today. His administration, WalMart, and other big wig corpos flipped this economy upside down. The manufacturer is now the b*tch of the retailer. It used to be, the retailer would need to find the cheapest manufacturer. Now, the megabox stores say "hey, you want us, the biggest retailer in the world, to sell your shyt? well you better find a cheaper way to make it"...hence, Chinese factories.
We could flip things upside down again. Bring the factories back home, bring the jobs back home, buy responsibly, and keep business clean. There's something called corporate responsibility that HAS to start becoming the norm. Doing business with irresponsible and corrupt people anywhere in the world needs to stop.
Why am I writing all of this on a surf forecasting site on a Wednesday morning? I'm not too sure. Maybe I'll start a revolution right now, who knows?

Question for you Slashdog, was this recent post from a different thread a joke or were you for real? Just curious...

It should start happening more. Do some research on the Market Basket fiasco recently in New England. I'm hoping that success story helps to turn the tide on corporate greed.

I always notice the right attitude in New England whenever I visit. Those are some resourceful folk that live up in rural parts of Maine, New Hampshire, etc. They come from generations of people who don't think of everything as disposable, and really don't give a hoot about when the iPhone6 is being launched. That's the right attitude. Maintain your shyt...your car, your house, your cell phone, the friggen razor you use, everything. Grow your own food as much as you can. Don't let a Starbucks set up shop in your town. Brew your own beer. Yeah, you can have a gadget or two or three, and use toilet paper and have running water, but Jesus, keep it simple for crying out loud. Buy what you NEED. Don't let the salesman sell it to you, buy it out of necessity. Pass this attitude along to your kids.
