There still are good movies coming out. Year zero and ward stories are two in the last few years that kick ass. I'm always stoked to watch those two. Great music in both.

everything is cyclical, esp. in surfing. "artsy-fartsy" surf flicks are nothing new. i suspect this recent wave of them is a backlash against the 90s-style quick-cut punk vids we grew up on, which themselves were a backlash against the first wave of artsy-fartsy films like this one:

the good thing about our time period, though, is that it's pretty easy to get access to the type of film/flick/clip you prefer & enjoy watching. in times past, whatever was most popular is what you got. not so much anymore.

if peru is in your future i'd be happy to help.
its easy to do wrong (for a surfer) trip-wise;
marvelous if done right.

This tread brings back some crazy memories... My friends and I tried to start a Skate Mag called DOG BITE. Made two whole issues, sold it at the ONLY skate shop in central NY in the early 80's. I actually had to go to South Jersey with my college roommate to buy my first real skateboard.

We also used to make skate vids with a giant camcorder. One of my friends, now a big shot attorney, was briefly sponsored by Sun Bums I believe??

I have to admit though, I have since made and been in some sh!tty skate and surf go-pro vids not fit for human consumption....

the innersection format is good stuff
each guy gets 4-5 minutes to showcase their skills, not too much fluff

how about snapt2? very tight

secret machine is hilarious

any other faves out there? I have seen so many they tend to blend together
some faves are also

siestas y olas
5th symphony document
litmus (Derek Hynd's misogynist rant is rather hilarious and his indoor multistory slide is unique)
postcard thoroughfare

as far as jersey vids go: 'through the looking glass' kinda crushes 'dark fall'

I personally own BlueRay or DVD's of the following: Thicker Than Water, Riding Giants, Step Into Liquid, Endless Summer 1 & 2, The Pursuit, and a few others I can't remember... I like them all, but my #1 favorite is Thicker Than Water for sure, great surfing, music, commentary, very well done, and it's not super long so it doesn't drag on, most bang for buck I guess you'd say.

I started surfing in 79 and the first flick is saw was Blazing Boards. The only way we really got to see a flick was going to the local rec center when a flick came through town. shyt was rad. as soon as the first wave popped on the screen the whole place erupted.

Who remembers the Runman flicks? That was the shyt there. Everyone credits Taylor Steele for the whole punk rock surfing vid concept, but Runman was doin that in the mid 80's minus the whole polished pro surfer scence and all bout true underground surf reality. Hands down my favorite surf flicks of all time.

the Runman series is hard to come by but he did a short in the Bruce Iorns film that's true to what he was doin in the 80's.

you can view some clips here: http://www.runmanfilms.com/pages/movies.html
