I hate how every time I buy a pair of board shorts after 2 weeks of surfing the waist size stretches out like 2 sizes. I usually buy 30s and my suit size is 32. Even then, after a while I feel like im going to lose my shorts duck diving. I know I am not the only one. Why cant they just make some with a real drawstring? ..and I realize the pockets go back so youre not lying on your keys but a real pocket would be nice too for when you're not in the water.

I don't wear boardshorts I wear exercise shorts. Never fall, never chaf, super light weight and dry fast. Add to that they cost about $15 a pair. I save the boardshorts for the pre and post session.

Rusty, Hurley Lower end Phantoms, Quiksilver Cyphers.. Billabong amphibians or whatever they are called are pretty good about it though. I just dont get why they dont have a real drawstring.

Some boardshorts have a real drawstring. I think Imperial Motion is one brand. Some others come with another set of holes to thread the string through so you can pull them tighter, I know some of the Cyphers have that and a few other brands.

Surf naked n poop n the water. Ull have the line up to urself guaranteed. But its probably the beer n stickn ur hand down ur pants everytime u see a wave that stretches them out. Thats what does it for me

Yah. Hear that. O'Neill Superfreaks that fit me nicely from a few years back are like Omar the Tentmaker boardshorts now.

Planned obsolescence...? Or merely 'made in China'......or.....'made in the Dominican Republic'....or wherever....by our wonderful 'homegrown' American firms.......ok not trying to get political here, it's late & there's been, like, no friggin waves, ok? I'm a bit pent up.

Either way, the long-term quality of products for Americans departed several decades ago. So, your boardshorts are what is termed 'planned obsolescence.'

    Lee? No way..... Lee?

It took you way longer this time. It has most definitely been a brutal flat spell.

I have heard nothing but good things about Patagonias baggies in or out of the water... I snagged a two pairs of baggies last year on sale at WRV and they are the best ones Ive had so far, granted im not living in them all year up here in Rhody like I was with all my others down in Florida. one was a pair of Vans and the others were WRV brand with the quickdry/no rash dimples on the inside.

Patagonia and Katin canvas boardies are my favs, haven't worn anything but those for a couple decades. The ultra stretchy suits are great and all.... for about 6 sessions before they rip.

Patagonia shorts are way overhyped. I had a pair of the stretch wavefarers and the waist expanded by like 4 inches when wet. Completely un-wearable. Also, the fabric is really rough and cannot be worn without something on underneath for any length of time. The best thing about Patagonia shorts is that they will take them back no questions asked after you wear them in the water and find out they suck.

NUT HUGGERS, BANANA HAMMOCKS, FRUIT SMUGGLERS.
Their fabric is soft and soothing. BTW, I was the Earl of Funk/Duke of Cool but I woke up and looked in the mirror and realized that at 50, I'm neither funky nor cool anymore. I wear tee-shirts instead of rash guards.
