This has nothing to do with the game of football. Its the lawyers that are gay.

"(contract) prohibits players from engaging in activities that could result in a catastrophic injury"...like football?

Unless one is surfing pipe, teahupo, or one of the other heavy spots, surfing only makes one stronger and sharpens reflexes...der!

this isn't the first time, nor the last a clause like that gets written into a contract. Barry Zito, when he pitched for the Oakland A's used to surf all the time. When he signed a huge contract with the Giants they prohibited him from surfing. They're just trying to protect their investment, makes sense.

from the surfing side of things, when joel tudor rode for Oxbow way back in the day they prohibited him from skating so he didn't injure himself.

they stereotype surfing as aerials done with ultra pointy boards at world-class heavy spots...about as far from the truth as possible for 99% of the surfing population.

Mariota admits he's a friggin' sponger, anyway!

I actually agree with you for once!

Well maybe not the same as far as frequency of risk but look at the recent shark attacks in NC as an example. Even a minor one could put him out for a few games or the season and the two in Oak Isl would have been career ending. Even riding small waves if you get pitched wrong you can dislocate a shoulder, break and arm/wrist/ankle/leg. While not catostrophic to your life, losing a marquee player for a season could be to a "catostrophic" to a team. Like IHL said these teams have to protect their investment.

the additional caveat is Marriota is a "Franchise" player. A young and talented QB that Tenn is essentially building their team around for years to come. if he gets injured and is out for a while it's devastating. see also: sam bradford/rams

his lawyers can write the contract however they want. He can go at his own risk If he gets hurt, they won't have to pay him.

He'll be boogie boarding in no time. Oregon QB's never make it in the NFL

Hey, maybe I can get the wives of the average, "Joe Surf," family man to get the husbands to sign contracts prohibiting them from surfing.

Sharks, fins, pointy noses, shallow sandbars..it is very dangerous and your families need you. Stop surfing.

    Thanks.

marriota's lawyers don't write the contract, he's signing a contract for the Tennessee Titans written by their lawyers.

this threads bolsters my argument that blasters and ihl suck at life and would gladly let a team of lawyers dictate the rules. u 2 r feggets and you are both big big BIG pu$$ies

I am down with team sports I guess, to its their own...... but I guess my main argument is that the MONEY in the sport is what sucks. money in surfing, makes it suck, but ihl loves it

'they are just protecting their investments'
    'I was just following orders'

I make more cogent arguments when I speckle the bowl with taco blasts

read the thing in bold up there. that's not cogent but good use of an SAT word.

also, the whole report is bogus so - http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/07/02/mariota-contract-not-stalled-by-surfing-clause/

They should put a "chest high" addendum in the contract.
He can surf, but once the buoys hit 3', he's gotta paddle in!

As a business man, I agree with the titans.
As a surfer, I say screw the titans!

Easy on sandblasters. He lives with his grandma still. It's hard putting on big boy shoes knowing granny has to tie them for you.
