Although we have had a few days of GREAT waves there just hasnt been the winter consistency and dayss of surf a swell would usually bring, whats happening im losing my mind!?!?
Here's a La Nina question for you StayAbove... does this warmer water mean anything positive for Hurricane Season? Or is that too far out for La Nina to have an effect?
hurricane activity increases substantially during La Niña. source http://www.elnino.noaa.gov/lanina_new_faq.html
La Nina connection seems likely, but this is one of the most anomalous winter season's the entire country has had in long a while. Jet stream has been stuck way to the north all winter... Allowing a really mild winter for most of the country along with very little snow.
La Nina shifts the jet stream and keeps a majority of storms to stay north of us. Last year the NE sucked in the winter, but those crafty bastards up in Nova Scotia scored....and scored. Most swells this winter are hit and miss and of the one day variety. But this past fall was one of the most consostent ever. So of course when you have a good season here, you have to pay for it. We haven't had a good winter in a couple years. It will come. Everything nature related comes in cycles. Hey Aguaholic how you doin' ?
This article is aimed more towards Florida but has a good description of what SouthjettyBill is talking about with the jet streams and how its affecting our weather this winter. http://www.wptv.com/dpp/sports/recreation_sports/surfing_blog/why-has-this-winter-been-terrible-for-surf-in-florida
