Coming from Maine, I know a little about New England surf, more importantly I know a poser when I read what one writes. Suit up and man up, or, shut up. Anyone that surfs the east coast knows that the "real surf" you speak of is during the fall and winter, sometimes some nice spring swell... In fact my last session in Maine was when I was up during Christmas and surfed Dec 22 2013. The forecast wasn't favorable, but I got clean waist-stomach all morning, the air was 30 degrees and the water was 41 degrees. I surfed in a 4/3 with boots and gloves after coming straight from florida. Man up or stick to Shoots and Ladders.

Yes I'm in Florida, but I attribute that to good life choices. Don't be mad at me because you choose to stick to the frozen tundra.

Yeah, when the boogieboarder got attacked by the shark. The local pros were there standup surfing and filming and didn't believe or even acknowledge the kid until he swam up and showed them his bloody leg. The video crew didn't catch the attack, but they filmed everyone frantically paddling in afterward once they realized something had happened. They were all right up on the rocks just jetting in. All surfing/bbing crap aside, I was little pissed when I watched the video and the surfers admit, we heard him yelling and flailing, but we didn't pay him any mind. We weren't really paying attention, but he finally made it over to us and showed us the blood and then we were like, oh ****. I was just thinking, really? You thought the guy was making a bad shark joke in the lineup? In Maui? Damn... I saw more sharks in Maui than I have anywhere. And I surfed the right in the harbor when I was there... The surf was crap but there were still a lot of guys out. I was there probably 2 months before that attack. I took pictures of a 10-12 foot tiger shark swimming right off front street while I was eating lunch at that Jimmy Buffet restaurant over on the west side. And there was a grom contest going on in that little harbor the whole time.

Fall can be warmer than early summer. Spring is good.
Yeah no personal interest in freezing during winter.
I don't need to "man up" for anyone. I do it for me, not to prove to you.

    I'm a "poser surfer"? lol

Surfing sucks monkey balls, sponging rules

    Peace out.

Regardless of your wave riding (d*** dragging) preference, a PERSON in need is a person in need... Anyone in the water with me is my brother when in trouble

What do you expect from surfers who spit in spongers face just for being on a bodyboard? That article says a lot about some surfers right there.

YES, but you have to remember the shark was hungry! So those surfers, like njsurfer42, probably wanted to make sure the shark didn't go hungry!! What is one human, when you have sharks endangered! The way a shark hunts is to maim its prey and let it bleed to death. They wanted to let nature take its course.
(extreme sarcasm in this post for any new readers)

Yeah i was a bit further down the road that day. But in all honesty you hear people yelling back and forth to each other all the time. Usually its some kids f'n around. They arent yelling shark tho. But tourists think thats funny to do, so sometimes you pay it no mind. Theres supposedly a tiger that lives in the lahaina harbor. Always kinda sketches me out paddling across that lil channel.

But usually you never see them. You should consider yourself lucky. Ive been here 4ish years and have only seen 1 white tip and it was small, and we were looking for it. And im in the water a decent amount.

oh and sometimes you see rays putting their wings(?) outta the water and tourists also then think its a shark, you let them believe (if not add a bit of fuel to that fire) that and they leave...

Yeah, it was about a week into my 2 week stay there. I had just been surfing at the next beach down south there and we came up to "downtown" for lunch. I saw all these people at the window with their cameras out and stuff so I went and checked it out. Sure enough it was a solid size shark. The bartender, who looked native said it was a tiger. Sure looked like one to me. It was plenty big too and it stayed around for about 15 minutes straight. There is a little reef right off the beach there in front of the restaurant. It was about 15 feet deep and that shark just circled it. It was high tide and these little polenesian kids were messing with it. The way the tide was, when the shark would circle, and I mean a few feet off the beach, the kids were throwing rocks in the water and stuff. I could just see in that sharks eyes that he wanted one of them to put their toes in... It was crazy.... I do consider myself lucky, but I was a little sketched out the rest of the trip. I really enjoyed surfing the shallowest reefs I could find the rest of the time. I never saw anything else though the whole time I was there and I was in the water all over the island ever day. Snorkling, surfing doing whatever. My wife FREAKED though when she saw that shark... She definitely appreciated the more shallow water from there on out. Only reason I actually went up to the north side and surfed the harbor is cause the waves were just not happening on the west or south side. I went all the way to hana and it was blown out (obviously) and small. For spending 2 weeks out there, I didn't get as much action as I had hoped for. I really had to get out and about and follow all the swell around. Just wasnt much coming that way. Best two weeks of my life though. I loved it out there for sure. Made San Diego look and feel like Alaska.

Yeah it takes some work to find waves sometimes. Or you just give in and scroll thru internet forums....

I know what you mean bout making it seem cold. I just got back from a 2 week road trip from North of the bay down to baja, and back. It took me 3 days to warm up after maybe a 2 hour sesh in santa cruz. And i grew up in that cold water so i was hopin it'd all be ok. I was wrong!

Yeah, I always thought it was funny that the further south into Baja Norte you go, even in the summer, the colder and colder that water gets until you get WAAAY down there. They always told me it was japanese current upwelling. But I remember wearing a 3mil in the middle of summer in Erendira and being pretty chilly down there surfing around Coyote Cals.

No one said anything about chest high barrels 5 days a week, but at least were out there. Im on LI, not exactly known for its waves. Last week I surfed 4 days, 2 being really nice shoulder high days. Iv surfed 8 out of the 16 days we have had this month. And really, I know your further north but wetsuits really are so advanced it doesn't even have to do with maning up. It comes down to if you want to be out there or not. You don't clearly. Which is fine, whatever do what you want it don't affect me. But the point is you spend a fraction of the time in the water compared to most of us, yet you post whoopla like your all knowing. Like Kahuna Kai said, your arguments are invalid. I know you don't like to boogie when its less then waist, why im not sure? Don't care either. Point is there's waves to ride if you want to. Calling yourself a wave rider yet letting all those waves go by unridden. Its a shame. Seriously, get in the water more, you'll probably be a lot less cranky

More wave riding skills....... We all have seen Joel but these Joe Aaron guy is a pretty sick LBer

You are the shark that bit itself on the a$$ and is now slowly bleeding to death. Soon you will be torn to shreds by real sharks. You call yourself shark hunter. I have been in the water with Tigers, Bulls, Hammerheads, Lemons, Millions of Spinners/Blacktips, Reefs, and other species while surfing here in Florida. Don't EVER EVER gvie us Florida surfer one iota of your BS and condescending pusswa comments, while you lay in bed and pull your pud thinking you can pretend to surf. You are not a master of sharks, you are a master of bait. Now go shuffle off, kook.

Bro what'd you get written up for anywayz? Your material is either too brief or too non sequitur to even get mad at. You keep this up and you may find yourself in the running for NMOTY.
