    OCMD lost for now.

2 Billion of taxpayers money going to big corporations.

Electric bills will be raised to offset the extra cost of wind energy ( wind energy is not economically feasible with out government subsidies )

    Birds will die

Sea life habitat will be destroyed. ( sound and vibration )

Once the subsidies run out, maintenance will stop and the non effective turbines will be left to rot.

Democrats are a shyte stain on the intellectual community. And have turned into big corporation supporters, as long as the government stamps it.

The Left democrats are OK with killing animals as long as they can say they are right.

Thanks Democrats; you made 2 companys rich on the backs of tax payers. Taxes are for public services not for corporate subsidies.

Yea OCMD got wind raped real hard. There is only 5000 locals and in the summer we are 2nd largest city in MD. It's all hotels or slum lord housing

P.s. leave Baltimore! Norfolk is nice if you need a high paying job and it's right next to OBX and VB

my bruv don't surf. plus he's making loot in BMore, so i don't blame him. if i look more into a trip up to MD shoreline, then i'll be sure to thread it out. i hear ppl are still wearing wetsuits up there, must be a f'n drag. it's not bath warm water down here yet, but it feels real good in trunks so i'm staying put unless this job doesn't properly gimme a raise. i work with the ports, so NFK is an option if i can deal with the Vargina-ians

Offshore wind farms have to be decommissioned, removed, and recycled. They're not just left to rot.

But in terms of the other negative impacts on marine life... you're probably right. There's a lot of evidence indicating that the noise (of construction, in particular... but also of operation) changes the behaviors of most fish and marine mammals. Fisheries will be affected.

Avian mortality depends upon a lot of factors... killing far fewer birds and bats offshore than nearshore or on land.

Definitely with The C-Face on this one. The shortsightedness towards the planet & towards other species that the human virus employs when instituting these projects is stunning.

And "Wind Rape" - - graphic, descriptive wourdesmithing.

Speaking of the environmental impact of offshore wind farms, I read a long time ago in Surfers Path (that old liberal surf rag) about (and I can't confirm this), but they said that a particular offshore wind farm off Ireland had affected a coastal environment by blocking wind driven moisture to the area thus drying out the landscape and consequently killing off much of it's vegetation. Thus driving off or killing many of the insects and land mammals that the vegetation provided a habitable environment for.
Worse yet the waves reaching the coast were significantly affected. Which IMO can have an impact on the coastal marine ecosystem.

77 offshore turbines at a cost of $2 billion, with the possible output of 368 megawatts, which could conceivably power 150,000 - 200,000 homes (roughly).

Current technology that quite possibly could be large, awkward and obsolete in 10 - 20 years, and will constantly be in the public eye.

If the costs are comparable and the power is efficient, I'd say go for it. But if fossil fuels are cheaper and more efficient, then I'd say that the project is nothing more than an expensive political boondoggle.

When they approved oil exploration along the entire East Coast, I thought... what's better, seeing wind turbines or seeing...

    1200px-Off_Shore_Drilling_Rig,_Santa_Barbara,_CA,_6_December,_2011.jpg

There is no clear cut answer to the question about offshore wind farms... there's no real "good" or "bad" final answer. It's way more complicated that that. Exact location and the specific kind to technology used at that location can shift the balance in one directing or the other. In some cases, it's the right choice... in others it's not... and the decision should be based upon the habits and habitats of local species of fish, mammals and birds. And even when the answer is "yes," there are still costs and risks... there is never a zero impact solution, in ANY energy production method... including solar.
