Who's trolling yank? I'm offering opinions and facts specifically to a guy asking about wooden boards. I'll admit, you guys who've been around a bit have seen those pics before but they were pertinent to the conversation. So wattup yank you salty fvck? You seen the ocean lately other than the surf cam? Watcha getting for Christmas? Maybe you should ask for some new jokes.
I don't build wooden boards. Or any boards for that matter. But there's a local who in pretty friendly with who builds hollow wooden boards. There pretty. Thick. And heavy. He let me borrow a mid length mini sim shape for a few weeks. It was really cool. Feels totally different from a normal board. I could feel the vibrations through the water. Not in a bad way though. And not how you would think. It's one of those things...when you feel it you get it, but without feeling it you can't understand it. I wouldn't ride a wooden SB. But a mid length or LB totally. I'd say go for it, especially if your open to different kind of boards and feelings. And by the way, the local i spoke of. He's not a shaper or anything. Just a guy who had tools and is good with his hands. I'm sure it's hard but sounds like fun
Bass, is the wood covered with a layer of resin?? Here is the thing--I am an okay "finish carpenter" (my father in law did this for a living and he has taught me a lot over 40 years), so I could probably make a decent wooden board. But I suck big time working with fiberglass and resin--hate it. Tried twice to make PU boards when way younger and "fail" isn't strong enough of a word. As a matter of fact, this weekend I am making two tables for our home. It's cold and there is no surf so carpentry time!!
They do have a layer of resin. This guy, from what i understand, was in a similar boat as you. Good with wood but not with resin and fiberglass and all that. A local shaper, the guy who shapes my boards, showed him the ropes of glassing (is it still called glassing if there's no fiberglass?). That shaper actually also let him borrow templates to work off of since this guy isn't a shaper.
Most Hollows have a fishbone style frame so yu plank em unlike the bert berger sunova firewire style which are just a vacuum bagged skin over a blank.they run a little heavier than poly but if yu do it right yu can get it close in weight .I use paulownia and balsa to build boards i get from tucker ,national balsa and some others.but they are beautiful and ride really well.Id go with Brad Tuckers but Jack Young also has kits.Lot of fun but they take a weeks to build the blank.Just finished another myself a 9 footer ill be glassing xmas
This had the potential to be a decent project tread about SURFING until you started trolling. Again. Doesn't it/you get tired fantasizing about 'what has Yankee been up to' and 'what is Yankee doing for the holidays,' chromium dish? Apparently not. You're like, what, the last one of my troll posse still kneeling, er, standing. Keep the faith & continue to pay homage, sparky. Would send you pics of my last-30-days surf treks to MEX (Sayulita), MEX (Saladita) & CR (Tamarindo, Guiones) but you'd just splutter all over your keyboart & make your gooey mess. Again.
I will say that compared to a foam pu or styro they are lot stronger and will last a lot longer . Saw some in Hawaii built before ww2 people still riding em the old Blake boards
Point of fact - this thread was about surf boards until you trolled the poster who responded on something relevant to the topic. Don't like wooden boards, fine. Slagging someone for offering their opinion the thread topic is something else. I want no part of any of the petty *****ing which is 90% of your precious board. Why not stay on one of the thousand threads crying about the mods or politics and out of this one if you have nothing of interest to say? Seriously.
Here's ^^ the original troll post, fool. You, vaughn, and the mod who has a soft-khack stiffie wanna be for anyone & everyone, along with asshat clemmie, should stop whining. See the above?? clemmie aka chromium domium has been trolling me for years, asshat. And he did it here, again. I call him out on it - - result: mod hits me with TWO infarctions. What does that tell ya, asshat? THIS: That vaughan & possibly clemmie & siggy & hanna bonnana, clinton whining crew all, are whining to the jerkoff mod, Austina the gal with her knickers in a twist, and boom! I get infarcted for calling out the troll clemmie. This website has gone to shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite.
I think it's a great idea: longboard, paddle board, canoe, any small water craft. Haven't done any of that but looking into building a small wood sailboat from a kit.
Try Glen-L Design, http://www.glen-l.com/. Specifically for sailboats, http://www.boatdesigns.com/Sailboats/departments/12/. They have a lot of cheap plans for just about every type boat you can think of. Boats are where my patience level drops off. My brother has built two, I think the squirt and flying saucer. They're a labor of love.
