winter surfing

i'm out on Block Island and made it through last winter in an aleda 4/3 with 3mm boots and gloves, I was a little cold mostly the fingers and toes but I could make around two hours in the water. I'm upping to 5mm gloves and 6 or 7mm boots. I've heard really good things about the o'neill 6mm psyco II. Good luck and try to make it to the Block for the bigger S or SE swells. Laters

 

5/4 or 6/5/4 is your best bet!

i've surfed the last 3 years in my Oneill Psycho II on long island and luv it...6/4/3...nowadayz u can prob. get thru w/ a 5mm, they're basically the same as the 6's, just alittle less rubber in the chest area...little ez-er to maneuver...the 5/4/3 Xcel drylock looks sick! but waters on long island get into the 40's during the winter, so don't be afraid to rubber up...5mm gloves (lobster claw, don't get the 5 finger style, not as warm) and atleast 5mm booties, if not 7's...make sure the booties are pretty snug, but not too tight, or else you'll have too much water swooshin' around in there and your feet'll get colder faster...

 

5/4 should do you good enough unless you've got the want to head up the coast. 6 or 7mm boots and gloves will work and I agree about the mitts over the fingered gloves. just a note we've got overhead in the forcast for tue. out on block island:

 

if you don't get cold e-zally i'd go w/ the 5/4/3...if you're surfing anywhere north of long island, u might wanna consider the 6/4/3...a 6/5/4 is very thick and almost too much rubber...i've never surfed in one tho...but with today's technology, i'd be suprised if you couldn't get by in a 5/4/3 the whole winter (4hour sessions too)...but if you get cold fast and you plan on doing jerry lopez sessions, u might wanna consider a 6/4/3...
