watching bells…and having to wait for the the Mick vs Kelly final im stuck watching 2 womens heat, thats when it struck me
does anyone really care about womens surfing cuz i sure dont..they are not even close to the same level as mens surfing and if i was a girl i would def be a sponsored surfer on a nice path to a pro career..so maybe i should have a sex change and live the dream??

unbearable? no way... plenty chicks rip... although I agree not near the level as the top dudes. However, also plenty chicks that aren't even that good who get sponsorships and free pass at surf spots. Sponsorship? OK...good for you surfing on someone else's dime... living the dream... no issue at all. But the free pass ie. not having to pay dues part does irk me sometimes.

Keep dreaming, you wouldn't last 1 round against most of them.

women's pro surfing has come lightyears in the last 10-15 years, it's unbelievable. thanks to women like lisa anderson, layne beachley, etc...who really pushed their envelope. plus, the girls today are easier on the eyes. for those of you who think you'd be able to go up against them, stop kidding yourself. even alana, who i think is probably the least impressive (in her surfing) would wipe the floor w/ most non-pro men, & you wouldn't stand a chance against someone like coco ho or tyler wright.

about 5 years ago i could not stand to watch the women surf. now, i actually really enjoy it. yeah there are still a few of the girls who have that girly style which is way too stiff and seems like they cant really release the board to get that real tight snap, but the top guns like stef gilmore, sally, etc. are pretty incredible to watch. Look at stefs 10 point ride from yesterday and tell me that is not a great wave to watch her surf.

I think it's safe to say Stef's Lady Layback out powers any one of our Larry Laybacks. Maybe it wasn't Stef and I could be confused but it was on the highlight reel--sick.

With the waves we get in New Jersey we don't even get enough practice to be on a level that elite........

    Bros, its all about marketing...
Not saying that girls can't rip, but sponsorship at any level is all about marketing. And lets face it, girls surfing is marketable.

Have you ever seen the WNBA, its pitiful to watch IMO, but it exists on a marketing level.

i love the way the pro women surf now. more classic style, less awkwardness going for airs and stuff. and you guys are delusional if you think you could take any of the top 10 in a heat. from what i see on the east coast, it's not even close.
