My German girlfriend works in development (PhD candidate), so I have a place to stay in Buenos Aires this summer. Was here a bit last year.... sick city and amazing f*ckin country. Talk about Endless Winter, last year I forsook the NE summer for 6 weeks of South American winter too. Stateside, I do a lot of freelance/1099, so it's easy to disappear after working a while. Enjoying the city and my BBQ balcony while making surf jaunts down the coast when I can. Trying not to drink too much wine during the day. Headed to Peru in August (Thanks Baddy!!). Will do later, she has the camera at work, for grown-up stuff. I only managed to get shots on the day that the swell was dying out.... will post em up later/tomorrow! BTW looks like Spain took a nice lame-duck victory over the Aussies, while the Dutch sobered up Chile with a 2-0 win. Cameroon is a joke, but Croatia vs Mexico should be fun...
u took a girl to Argentina? thats like bringing sand to the beach. Argentina is the tops, eh? try not to let your eyes pop out of your head homie and I think metard needs pics of your girl
They aint ALL hot tamales down there. Got a one in my office that resembles an English Bulldog, careful with stereotypes, they can lead you down the wrong path, next thing you know you are chewing your arm off in the morning to get out of bed...
Thank god. I was hoping someone would confirm this for me. Argentina was a disappointment, I was praying the rumors of Brazil being the land of goddesses would hold true.
I don't have any Brazilians at work that I can debunk that one with, so until then you are correct my friend.
I have hope vs Germany. We are back to back world war champs. Both times crushing ze Germans yaa? Third time is a charm. Down with ze kaiser!
Its official. We are in the sweet sixteen for the second tournament in a row. It was a grind, but all in all, USA played very well against all three opponents. The obvious fail was the defensive breakdown against Portugal, or we wouldn't have even had to show up today. But a 1 nil loss to Germany is not a bad one. We played very well defensively, but only had a handful of shots on goal. We were very unlucky on that last offensive stand. One of those two shots on goals should have dropped and we should have left with a tie. No matter. You could see that the US went defensively today. They had a flat line of 6 back every time Germany was pressing. Hard to get shots on goal when you are constantly running backlines that deep. Who is up next? I hope we get an opportunity to take out Mexico.
They did, but tactically, the US did what they were supposed to do. US was just unlucky. But Klinsmann had intentions to play a defensive, safe match, knowing that if the US went on too many striking runs, that we would be exposed on the back end. And the only thing that REALLY would have gotten us eliminated, is if we let Germany put up 2-3 goals on us, because Portugal could have easily scored again and they almost did twice in the last 5 minutes. Klinsmann had a plan. He stuck to it, and it worked. Muller's goal was brilliant, and very unlucky for the US. It was well struck in the only spot that it could have gone in. Dempsey basically scored a point blank goal there at the end and we had another solid strike right before it. That was really the only time that the US showed an aggressive attack. And that was because they knew the score of the Ghana game, and they knew we were in the clear. All we did today was play to draw or lose by 1 and that is exactly what we did. We didn't need to win, otherwise we would have played a different game. While Germany was on cruise control a lot of the time too, knowing the deal as well, we did exactly what we were supposed to. The Germans did expose our back line quite a bit in the second half sneaking those through balls behind our wings, but every recovered well and the formations got back in order immediately. I would not be all the scared if we had to play Germany again towards the end, because as the rounds go on, you can't play it safe the way we did today. If the USA had been going 100% and the German's did too, I could have easily seen a 3-2 match today, that could have done either way. We were playing them completely physical. We got in their heads a bit too... schweinsteiger is a MONSTER on the pitch, and we threw him around like a rag doll all day. I think probably 5 different guys got a whistle for laying him out today. 2 yellows. But we definitely surprised the Germans. I think they know that if we had pressed, and we had Altidore playing, they would have had a tough out for sure.
It would have been foolish not to play conservative... But, Germany controlled the ball like 80% of the game, so I think its honest to say we got outplayed. I think the US can put up a match with anyone right now, so I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.
All in all, they outplayed us. But I have watched a lot of German soccer in recent years, and today, was not the German's day. Which is not good for the US. The German's did control the ball a lot today, but like I said, from a tactical perspective, that was by design.... I think we shocked Germany today, just like Ghana did. I mean, everyone in this group can play and they can play well. Ghana was REAL unlucky today. The first goal was an own goal. They missed a TON of opportunities. I swear, FIFA cheated with the damn selections. They intentionally got us in the worst group out there. And also look into what Klinsmann said about the locations of the games. He mentioned that FIFA made sure that the USA, even in the hardest group, had the hardest road within the group. Germany and Ghana played right on the coast, while the US got scheduled to play Portugal inside a stadium in the middle of a rainforest with sweltering conditions. That was the first "WATER BREAK" ever, in the history of the World Cup. Interesting that the US was in that situation, right? I dont think so. No coincidence there. The world wants us out, and they want us out now. Hopefully we will keep surprising them no matter what they do to stop us. Klinsmann explained that this is by design. The Germany's and the teams that are the "class" right now, get put in cake situations... I am just proud that our guys made it through. That was the toughest out we have had in decades for sure, and so far, so good. We already had to face three of the best teams in the tournament. Great practice. Klinsmann just wanted to get out of this round alive, and he did. And I still feel like both sides today had their foot OFF the gas, pretty much the whole time. People even speculated that the coaches and teams were basically in agreement to tone it down and be fine with a draw. I think Germany has too much pride for that, but I don't know. I didn't see 100% from either side. We played safe, they played safer. They just have a talent level, where opportunities will present themselves, even if you are only playing at 75%. They are that good.
I watched a soccer game once-yeah i was trying to get with a hotty. I watch that dumb azz movie "ET" once, it too was for a hotty. I even went to "bed bath and beyond" and bought wind chimes for house warming gifts, yeah, for a hotty. Yes, you see I have done many things I'm not proud of, mostly for hotties, but the one I'm most ashamed of, is that soccer game I watched, that truly was a waste of time.
If both US and Argentina win next week, they will play each other in the semifinal. If the US eliminated Argentina, and I went around flag waving, could you imagine what they would do to me here? And, why isn't anyone talking about the greatest moments; Luis Suarez with his THIRD career biting of an opponent: ... and Argentine player Lavezzi squirting his coach in the face with a water bottle? Here's a nice GIF I couldn't embed: http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2014/6/25/5842642/ezequiel-lavezzi-alejandro-sabella-water-video Gotta hand it to ya Pride, funny first post, but I think you need to revisit the MLA style book .... not sure 'bed bath and beyond' belongs in quotes... stay proud
