and after reading Surfline's "Best Summer Ever" East Coast 1995 article, I'm willing to bet this 2010 is the worst swell season of all-time. I'm praying the forecasters are right and we do see some serious tropical activity August/September.
You're crazy. There's been plenty more rideable days this summer during june and july than last year.
I disagree. Normally July can be super flat all month, but this past July 2010 was not the case at all. Add on the warmer than usuall water temperatures we've had. One of the best July's in recent memory. Anyone agree?
No I don't agree. June 2009 was excellent as far as June's go. Several good swells. July 2010 did not have a single significant swell of note. Sure you could surf several days but I remember some July tropical swells in previous years that would put this year to shame.
dude have you ever seen an east coast summer?? weve had some pretty fun days and the summer is far from over.
i don't remember exactly which month is was, but Hurricane Bill sent ungodly surf to Va Beach. Solid double overhead, and glassy with the skies turning the water into a mirror of orange-ish reflection. it was the best evening/sunset surf session i've ever had
june was the problem. june 29 was the only really decent day. july 9-12 swell was pumping, and so was the 14th/15th swell. add in the little swell the 19th/20th and july looks ok compared to the past few years. plus all the many countless really small rideable days in between. we always seem to get total flatness last couple weeks of july into early august. this was nowhere near as bad as july the past couple years
If you rely on the surf reports - yeah its a bad year. If you been at the beach its been pretty good. Storms are commin...
It really depends on where you are. I don't think this summer (June/July) has been as good as last summer was in the Va Beach/Obx area. It has actually sucked badly. I think the guys in MD, NJ, and up north have been getting decent waves here and there and we don't get S**t. Like I said, it just depends on you location but that is usually how summer swells work.
From work where i can see waves all day i would say its been a pretty bad summer if you ask me.. only time i have had really decent waves was the early july swell in ocmd.. and assatuege hasnt even really broken yet this year last two years we had a few days that broke there by this point
hurricane bill did not send double over head surf here, , it was prob 6-8 ft and glassy , it was super fun but not double over head , but a good summer on the east coast still sucks ,
no surf for a week and you guys start cryin?? july was a very consistent month with july 10th being near epic head high offshores for about 5 hours producing long barreling lefts. water temp dropped to about 60-62 toward the end of july with the westerlies we received for like 2 weeks straight. Last July was also very consistent, but can't compare. You guys rely on reports too much. That's actually a good thing for me.
There is no way in hell it was double overhead here in VB during Hurricane Bill. Maybe 6 or 7 feet at the very very biggest... maybe. and it wasnt that glassy it was crumbling over so much that you had to race down the line before you could get a section to snap at.
