So I read an interview that GQ did with the twerking surf chica, Anastasia Ashley or whatever her nom de idiot is. She said she loves to bring her waterproof music player into the ocean & sing along or rap along as she sits in the lineup waiting for set waves.

Is this the new coolness? Or worthy of a beating? Unless, of course, she's going back to your van apres surf.

GQ: Do you warm up like that every time you surf, or just for contests?
Anastasia Ashley: It's mostly a pre-contest thing. Usually before I surf at home, I listen to music in my car, and I put on my bathing suit or wetsuit and kind of jam out. I just like to get amped up. And now that I've started actually surfing with music, that's like a whole other level of awesome.

GQ: How do you do it—just waterproof cases for everything?
Anastasia Ashley: Yeah, I put my phone in what they call a LifeProof. It's pretty awesome, I just put it in blast it. People look at me like I'm crazy because I rap or sing along to a lot of music. After doing it, I can't work out without music at all. Like I can't get into it, you know?

GQ: Do you worry that this video will overshadow your accomplishments, or do you feel that it's just nice to get the attention?
Anastasia Ashley: I don't know. I always feel like I've been out there, and that people will try to take away from my accomplishments, but I know what I've done, so, I know I'm 100% focused on myself—so that's what's important, you know?

I'm headed out to surf right now. And you can bet your ass that I'm going to twerk before I paddle out

I prefer the ocean as my music. It is relaxing to me. I would probably laugh if I saw someone listening to music in the lineup. She can get away with it because of the way she looks. If it were a dude doing it, he would have been ridiculed.

That was good. Post the vid!

And for Brew: what about singing & rapping in a crowded lineup? How fast would that get old?

And for Anasstassia: a spanking, not a beating.

It's seems like all of these types of sports have those people who develop a persona instead of skill. She seems to be one of those types.

I've been out in the water with someone singing like that out loud..only there wasn't an ipod involved.
I don't think it's worthy of a beating, but it's definitely worthy of a "shut the **** up"...I don't care if you're pro or not..

Worthy of a minor beating, especially the rapping in the lineup bit.

I was thinking about the sounds I hear in the water last night, and it occurred to me that most of my memories of waves(that I'm on) are just visual, not much sound, except that distinct barrel sound that's more of a swooshy/sucky noise. It's funny when contrasted with when I'm not on a wave, whether it be hearing sets break from the parking lot, rocks getting sucked up into the backwash on a bigger day, or even jst hearing set waves break that I'm not on. It's never as loud when on the wave vs. hearing waves break in the distance, at least for me.
Not sure what my point is, but the whole surfing experience(from sitting in the lineup waiting to riding waves) is one of few things that make my brain slow down and allow me to be completely in the present, so I wouldn't be super psyched to hear someone belting lines from little weezy or whatever they call him.

I used to skateboard all the time with my Sony Walkman cassette (yeah, I'm that old) blasting. I tried snowboarding with tunes and it ruined the experience. Didn't even like listening on the chair lift. I just think the music would distract me and I'd miss more waves than I already do...

worthy of a beating? how about worthy of even posting? are you having trouble sleeping over the fact that a chick surfer twerks before she paddles out or the fact that she listens to music while she surfs? who really cares? it's not like anastasia's warm up is responsible for the summer flatness. she's smoking hot and she can outsurf 99% of this forum.

First... The twerk thing is awesome.
I can see both sides of the music thing. There are times when I want total silence and relax.
But there are also times when I think some good tunes would be sick. Like when you're out with a bunch of friends and the waves are firing. I think music cranking in the line up would pump everyone up.
It's like a party. Sometimes you want to just chill and talk to friends, play cards or some sh*t. And sometimes you want the music cranking.

Heavy beat down by a big Samoan-choke-moke-type-of-chick

Anastasia Ashley.........man, she's kind of been around for awhile. Why is it that every time I hear her name, I say it in my head in a soft, effiminate southern voice? I always do that.

You know what throws urine in my Cheerios? That all of these stupid hood and retard phrases actually get put in the dang dictionary. I can NOT beleive that. Now that certainly is a sign that our culture is doomed.

Twerking...........Miley Cyrus..........Am I the only person on this planet that realizes that Ms. Cyrus has NO FRIGGIN TALENT??? Dear Lord, when o when is Miley, Justin Bebs, and the rest of these people going to OD on dope? WHEN ?? Or in Mr. Beiber's case, Id' rather someone beat him senseless.......like into a vegetated state. Some guy in Totronto tried to last week but was taken out by Beiber's bodygaurds. But kudos to that dude. He should be made a hero.

And music in the line-up....oy vey......

Yeah don't worry guys, some day they'll be Ski-lift-like things shuttling the masses into the line-up.........with big sound systems blasting garbage music from the beach.

Man, I really should have grown a beard and disappeared into the Humboldt County wildlands when I had the chance. Bought me a gun........

ok I agree with Paddington here! I somehow think if Miley Cyrus was actually good looking the world would be reacting more positively to her utter foolishness.
