Hey everybody.... I've been hanging on to some older suits that I've collected over the years, with the intention of recycling them when it came time... but now that I've thought about it, is it even possible to recycle a wetsuit? Is it more of a recycling in the traditional sense? Or is there a non-profit out there that I can send the suits to and they distribute them to people who may have a use for them? Either way, just want to get rid of them without tossing them into the trash! So if anyone's got any pointers, I'm all ears. Thanks and make sure you get in the water tomorrow! I'm in the Wilmington/Myrtle Beach area if that helps as far as where to take the used rubber. All suits "work" so to speak, in good condition as far as appearances; they're just old. Supposed to be meeting a guy in the morning about a 4/3 Cypher... Stoked! First new wetsuit I will have purchased in many a moon.
I hang on to my old ones until I find someone who I find "worthy" and then give it away. I have never heard of recycling a suit but I know there are plenty of poor younger kids who want to surf.

Giving it away is probably the best option. But you can't find any takers, you can put it in one of those clothing donation bins that are all over the place - they're usually run by planet aid, goodwill, the red cross and others. All that stuff ends up in a warehouse where it's graded for resale, recycling, or trashed if its no good. So it might end up getting recycled that way - at least it's more likely to happen than if you just throw it in the trash.
This is very well said. I have given a suit to a new friend at the time who has developed into quite the surfer. I plan to give a few more away too when I find a worthy individual.
