Does anyone know when they are going to do the replenishment at WB? That last swell a week ago destroyed the sandbars and now nothings breaking right...
Tonight there is a meeting concerning changing the prices of pay parking from 2 to 2.50/hr and from 9a-6p to 8a-8p. Ive been told renourishment typically runs on four year cycles here and the last time I think was 2010, so given these two possible signs a project might be coming withing the year. Just a guess tho.
WB is the priciest, most densely built area in the county and probably all of SENC.... No one has ever been able to figure out where the hell all the property tax and room tax money goes. Every year WB cries poor and decides the only way to fill the gap is by raising parking fees. Replenishment is not going to fix the current sandbar problem, nature will take care of that over the next month or so. Plus, WB doesn't get replenished like CB and KB did last year. CB and KB got sand from offshore deposits. WB gets sand when they decide to dredge the inlet and the ICW--it's a secondary "benefit."
Never have understood why 'parking season' is spread over so many months. Sure the weather turns warm around March-ish but we all know tourist season doesn't get heavy until May.
I hate paying for parking when I am still in a wetsuit. The parking should be memorial day to labor day when the tourism hits. They are just milking locals by demanding pay from surfers who are the only ones in the water until may/june!
Which is why this poor boy is gonna start exploring more...anyone know a good canoe/etc put-in spot for a paddle to Lea-Hutaff Island? Seems like going all the way to the South End of Topsail just to paddle across the inlet is a bit out of the way from Wilmington. Anything closer? I've seen maps...I've dreamed the dream..now I wanna live it
Theres a boat ramp out by porters neck not far from lea. ive surfed it before. Right at the inlet between figure 8 and lea isnt too bad if you catch it at the right time. pretty sharky tho..
cool and thnx...I think i might've stumbled upon that put-in awhile back... you saying the island is sharky or the paddle over is? i'd be in a canoe so no worries there. just curious
