Alright, so I don't actually have a pic yet but I'll try and describe the board I've seen the last couple times I've been out. It's 5' to 5'6" long shaped like a popcicyle stick with the back cut straight off. Looks like it gets down the line fast but have yet to see a bottom turn or a cutback on it. Ant guesses?

That may be Clemson. I think he said something about building one a while ago.

Alaia boards are fast and light. They can turn, but I am guessing they take more skill.

They take a whole lot of skill to turn.

most alaia come with a free fedora and short sleeve button up shirt, you wear the hat with the shirt unbuttoned when you surf to look cooler

    or something like that

    I'd recommend a mini-simmons to anyone.

Alaias are a totally different ball game. Unless you're a small Hawaiian boy in the 1700s or a California dude trying to be an instagram hero, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They're beautiful to look at and inspiring to see someone surf them well but they're a novelty board. This is probably true all along the EC but especially in SC.... You don't want to waste the novelty of a perfect SC wave on a novelty board. Someone quote me on that.

With that being said, the Xylem dude in Wilmington or Wrightsville will tell you they're great and sell you one. He surfs them well too I think.

Fiber glass with 5 fin boxes. Mini Simmons looks like it. Don't know why I just noticed them. Dude was catching waves on it.

Looked like the photo hawkheart posted. Pros?cons to this design? And do I have to wear the fedora?

5 fin boxes on a mini simmons seems excessive.

A Mini Simmons is basically a 10ft long board cut in half with half moon fins or keels glassed on. They are thick and wide, float awesome and ride cool as the other side of the pillow. They are fun as hell and really good for or EC surf.

Brew is right 5 fins is insane on a MS. Here is a great example of a traditonal looking MS:

FB monday. Medium blue.(Board not hair) lol

I went back and found a long tread on SI about them. I gotta say I want to try one out. It looks like it could be fun. I first noticed them last year when we had some big "closeout" swells and this one dude was screaming down the line on one. Thanx for the info.

Yeh, I thought the 5 fin set up was kinda over the top too.

Frizzle... You know that's a boogie board right? I'm sorry, I'm hoping this is a dumb question. I mean guys do stand up on them. What are we talking about here?
