Just figured I would start a discussion on yesterday (1/30/08) in Ocean City, MD. All I have to say is WOW. This site was forecasting waist to chest high, but I know there were solid shoulder high sets coming through in the afternoon. I hadn't gotten those kinda barrels in a while!! For those of you who missed it....better luck next time. Let me know what everyone else though about yesterday. Also, what is everyone thinking about Saturday?? Only good in the morning or what??
if I'm not mistaken the forecast for ocean city, md yesterday was waist to chest with occasional shoulder sets.
" I hadn't gotten those kinda barrels in a while!!" Well it was what it was,....the forcast was on. But from past experience, I was not really counting on a fast soild build of wind swell over night to produce what we encountered. Of course it has happened before, and it seems to be happening more often as of late,... that we do get a good push out of those types of wind swells. For those who got on it around noon, you scored I am sure...I even scored leftovers late, and was very happy. I would think that someone out there has to have had a great session shooting pictures as well from the way it looked when I first got there. Good long lines and they were opening up very nicely. The swell angle really played out well and not to much current to deal with. Those cams can not tell the true story sometimes.......wish I would have known the truth or I would have been on it when it was really firing off......plenty of waves to go around to.
I was out in DE yesterday. It looked so nice. I messed up my shoulder at work though, so I can't really paddle hard enough. But bodyboarding it was nice.
I had an awesome day yesterday. Good fun times with out a doubt. I got some photo's in as well as some video in mid-town OC, so PM me if you were bodyboarding in that area yesterday around 1 pm cause I got some film of you.
i got out late, got in at 45th street, drifted north. hit the water at about 4:00 pm, still shoulder sets coming through, but predominately waist chest. say every 10 minutes there was a real sick set coming through. had a blast until after only an hour i hit dropped onto the sandbar and broke my right fin off!! bummer!! tried to still surf, stupidly, and slid out on a right, though i could hold my line on a left time to break out the old beater again. overall, awesome day - friends from the morning were saying it was just like the morning except head high, and i believe it. come on saturday...
oc was def fun!! hollow and dumpin! def a great day!!! lots of bbers out there as well! seemed like ppl were gettin some good pix as well!
Yeah assateague seems to have been similar to what I've heard about ocean city, except there wasn't anyone else out in the water besides my friend and I. Around 2 some of the sets were definitely in the head high range, I guess due to assateague facing a little more south. god it was nice though, i wish we had more days like it
not from what i've seen. 'teague is breaking way different than oc lately - oc is shallow and hollow lately with the sandbars.
I'm sure it was fun at Assateague but it has that deep look lately. The window of ridability just last so much longer in OC. That said, Ocean City was going off! Maybe I should say "to me it was going off!" so knowone jumps on me. Very fun chest high waves with some nice big ones everyonce in a while. I saw one guy in the water 2 blocks from me. Nearly perfect from my point of view, some size and an easy paddle with little current.
