Right?! People can't wait for summer to shed the rubber, then complain about the lame surf and insane crowds when it comes. Take what you get, and don't get upset. Be happy to be able to surf at all, and get the right equipment to make the most of it.
i ride every size and shape there is,but these small slow weak waves get really boring pretty quick. i wanna ride a wave where when you hit the lip,the lip hits you back.
I hear ya brother. I was getting out of the water the other day, and another guy was like, "That's it? You're done?" I said, "Yea... guess so. How many knee high waves do you need?" I just try to remember that every flat day that goes by brings us one day closer to the next good swell. ....if that's any consolation.
I don't know. I think this link gives this current thread a run for it's money: http://www.swellinfo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8281
Koki - Thanks... my latest creation, done just in time for summer. Next up... 6'6 performance shortie with parabolic stringers and 5-fin setup for quad/thruster option. Just in time for hurricane season!
It's been a good July. I don't go out every chance I get though, because I just don't think it's worth it floating around with 30 other people when it's only ankle to knee high. I usually just spend that time in the ocean just swimming, and enjoying the beach day, and don't bother bringing a board those days. I love how every day there are at least 15 guys in the lineup mid afternoon on any given summer day. Whether it's ankle high or flat or choppy, and unrideable.
another pumping swell today-too big for me,though,i'll wait,it's gonna be good tomorrow. best july ever!
Everyone here where I live now calls this time of year "flat". The majority of surfers on the island sit it out for the summer months and only ride when it picks up in the head high range again. They kinda look at me weird like "your paddling out for that?". Crazy. Being an east coaster I know better. Summer time in VB is flat and crowded. Summertime in Micronesia is 2-4ft hollow waves with 4 people on it ...almost every day.
