I've been diving that exact spot every day that it's clear, and I've seen rays there every time I've gone for the past several weeks. Those are rays, not sharks, but from the video I can't tell what kind of ray. My guess would be cownose rays, because they have schooling behaviors. But I have mostly seen bluntnose rays, and an occasional roughtail ray, which are really impressive due to their size and long, slender tails.
Coming to the US again in a few weeks for a surfing trip. Hope I will not encounter any sharks :S Will just stay on my board, anxious to not falling off...
I was frolicking in the bay on Saturday and caught this little guy. We swam together for a while and then I went home.
this happens EVERY year in NJ. They are big cow nosed rays. They flop around on the surface and the ends of their wings are pointy looks like shark fins. Cow nosed are known to school up by the hundreds as well. They are up and down the beach this week
Ha, right! Actually, it's crazy just how big even these little guy's teeth are. He could shred ya up pretty good if you stuck your finger in there.
