God forbid the wife would want to go to Costa but she does want to hit up Maine. Should i lug a board(s) all the way up there?
It's good enough for 1000 Quebeqois on any given summer weekend, why not you? When though? Like all of NE, it's not like you're guaranteed waves at any particular time unlike Costa.
I would not go up there during hurricane season without a couple of boards and wetsuits. Go on Google maps and look at the satellite view. Tons of surf potential if there is swell in the water.
Yes... you might get away with less, but you're safe with a 3/2. I would plan to bring boards... I've gotten good surf at Ogunquit in August, and I know guys who go to ME every year to surf. If I had a trip planned, I'd keep an eye on what's happening and make the call just before I go. Grain is in York, and there are quality spots in and around that area. Surf or no... enjoy your trip.
Sigmund is up there I think, he'll know. MA and RI you don't need a suite in August but ME is a little colder so probably? August up in NE is a crapshoot but if you're driving you should bring boards (at least a LB) for sure. Always a chance a swell hits on your way up and you can detour to NY or RI.
Never been but always wanted to head up there on a solid hurricane swell. Id definitely bring boards just for the possibility of surf. Enjoy the trip!
Yes on bringing a board. Yes on the 3/2 in August. York is 10 miles from where I live which will be about a 20 minute drive to "The Wall" which is like kook heaven. Waves are USUALLY small then, but NOT always. So longboard or shortboard you use for smaller waves will be suitable. Have fun.
