I would do it for free. Kind of cool. Especially if they could personalize the data. Like "Jay's" current lol!
Yeah.. maybe it could come with a killer app that would keep the ultimate surf log, with all sorts of data on conditions, positions, tracking, etc.
Yea dog... Tells you how many large creatures in your area. Would you want to know? I probably would not
I have a large creature in my pants. NOAA closely monitors it because they think it may be a new species of whale.
I don't walk funny because of the hardware in my knee, it's because I'm smuggling this in my pants: (compared to the size of a human)
A couple of thoughts: 1. They could collaborate (or license technology) with Fitness Tracker manufacturers to integrate some of the features/functionality that may be of interest to the users so that they would have some personal benefit in participation. 2. The data collection would not necessarily give full coverage of the near shore zone, as we know, surfers only surf "spots" where a decent wave is breaking. 3. They could increase the area of data collection coverage by expanding to kite surfers, wind surfers, and SUPs.
Good input. I myself probably would not want to hassle with this stuff. One of the reasons I enjoy/go surfing to "escape" all the digital technology that continues to surround us. I don't want to be "distracted" by extra stuff. So, I don't own a GoPro (even though family members push "don't you want one"). I don't even like to wear a watch, except when I know that I have an appointment or obligation (or parking restriction) that limits my session time. That is why they would really need to give some incentive for participation, especially for the "old schoolers". Perhaps the younger, social media types, tech savvy/driven types would be more apt to buy in.
