Just read these responses to an article i was reading this morning...the top comments on a msn article haha: The so called "War on Poverty" has been an abysmal failure in most people's eyes, but those mired in it continue to vote for those that will keep the gravy flowing; the Democrats. Brilliant plan by the liberals as it ensures them constituents for life. Benjamin Franklin was spot on when he said: "When the people find they can vote themselves money that will herald the end of the republic." We are there now with the 47% leading the charge......I think he may have had good intentions, but as is seen throughout the ages, the worst thing you can do for someone is do what they should be doing for themselves. someone then added this: It is good to have some kind of safety net so people don't end up dying in the gutters because they have no place to live. But when you make it so people can get by just existing on hand-outs removes people's incentives to provide for themselves. Plus, the government has convinced these people that they aren't capable of providing for themselves - the need the government to help them out. i am done talking to a bunch of surfers about politics for awhile...lots of waves in the forecast!! get some!!
Himno, I'll be curt since there's many ostriches on here who think that ignoring political matters is ok...........and then wonder why things suck. Well, Sporty, if you don't get involved, then those that do, run the show....And lets face it, most of the surfing talk is kind of dull. Dems pulled us out of The Great Depression caused by Hoover's lax business regulations, that in the short term caused prosperity(the roaring 20's), but in the long run sunk the boat. Most of the country's most prosperous times have been caused by democratic leadership, and most of our most horrid times have been saved by democrats. Take the recent past. Clinton left the country in good shape, even gave 'ol George a budget surplus. Then as Bush's policies came to play the country sunk. Say what you will aboot Obamy, but the country's financial conditions are better than he inherited. And if anybody says it wasn't Roosevelt or Clinton that created new prosperity or saved us from the brink, remember that you always blame or credit the president for immediate conditions. You can't have it both ways.....And Reagan is heralded as a great leader, but the poor got poorer, and the rich got richer under him. Plus, he invented crack and AIDS. And lastly, and I'll shut-up(unless absolutely necessary)..........These hand-outs ain't no picnic. Y'all could get yourselves fired, and start living the good life on welfare if youse wanted to. I don't know why you guys are so jealous of $300 a month in food stamps; $100-$300 a month in cash: section 8 housing in poor violent neighborhoods, and shoddy healthcare at cheap-arse inner-city clinics. Would you really trade your jobs in for that? I didn't think so. Yes, the welfare life is such a splendid existence. Plus, abject poverty does strange things to people. Do you want more people out there looking to stick you-up? Yes, yes, lock them people up, right? Well, then you're still paying for them. Not everybody is born into solid families and as smart as the people on here. Until you've walked in their shoes it's very unfair to judge. Most of the people who cry aboot entitlements would be crying, "WHAT ABOOT ME," if they lost everything. And you never know when you can lose it all. It's a strange world out there. I mean, Lena Dunham got 3.5 million to write a book and she's sucks, while there are millions of infinately more interesting people who don't even have $350. And you're right, Hinmo, surfers shouldn't speak politics. Surfers are dumb and nothing matters to us.....so let the waters pollute......let access be denied......let the marine life die....let the beach badges flow and let Erock stomp or run over the plovers......
So if you don't like present day Obama Land, is McConnell and Boehner equally to blame? And what did the work requirement for welfare do? What actually was that work requirement? I never payed attention to that. What did they sweep the gutters or something? Walk around center city picking up trash? If so, if I was them, I would have unionized and demanded better welfare pay.
anyone advocating for the rule of anyone by anyone really needs to calibrate their moral compass http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloward–Piven_strategy The Cloward–Piven strategy is a political strategy outlined in 1966 by American sociologists and political activists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven that called for overloading the U.S. public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis that would lead to a replacement of the welfare system with a national system of "a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty". Cloward and Piven were a married couple who were both professors at the Columbia University School of Social Work. The strategy was formulated in a May 1966 article in liberal[1] magazine The Nation titled "The Weight of the Poor: A Strategy to End Poverty".[2]
But you want to rule everyone...you want your way........you want society to function as you see fit..... Even if there's no rules that's still a rule..... Hey MIS-13, are you really a big wave hero? I'm not being snarky, I'm being serious. Like, I know you say you live in Hawaii, but I hear dudes on here talking double-overhead and 12 foot....and I have never seen a 12 foot wave anywhere near me. And for some reason, these dudes are always going to Santa Cruz......and it's always 12 foot.....and they ride their east coast shore break board.... and it's 12 foot.... I get confused and just don't know what to believe........
No, I want EVERYONE to leave EVERYONE else alone. my ideal world involves allowing people to make their own mistakes so they can grow. AND HOW MANY TIMES MUST ANARCHY BE DEFINED FOR YOU??????. it means no RULERS, not no RULES this is why arguing with you is pointless, you make up your own definitions for words and don't think words like statist exist... "If PJB never heard of it, it must never exist!" What you don't know about (insert topic here) I could just about squeeze into the grand canyon learn your greek root words for starters. latin too. You seek what is know as POSITIVE LIBERTY (I think) I seek NEGATIVE LIBERTY Feel free to look these terms up along with Robert Axlerod's 'the evolution of cooperation' and 'The Hedgehog and the Fox' by Isaiah Berlin and I am no hero, I limit out at 12' local scale while my friends are charging phantoms, I am relegated to Sunset, b_______ds, pinballs and the occasional smaller day at the boil
Oh so when a democratic president does himself proud, it's actually congressional republicans that are responsible... And when a democratic president doesn't do as well, it's all his fault or other congressional dems. Republicans do no harm. Oh, I get it now. Thanks for clearing that up !! Big thumbs up !! Name a specific example of Pelosi damaging the United States of America. And aboot that welfare reform....what does "required able-bodied adults to work" mean? And they still have to "look" for work today....they make them go to all sorts of classes and stuff.......turn in sheets of places applied-to and stuff.... My friend milks the system...he gets welfare......and he has a job !! LOL HA HA......suckers........
Yep, giving everybody the freedom to succeed or fail on their own terms is such a bad thing. Personal responsibility is awesome, give it a try sometime.
THIS is why we are here. to succeed or fail, on our own. if you want to help someone, awesome, you get the mother teresa award. if you dont want to help someone, great, to each their own. its called leaving people the f@ck alone
Do you really think there's ever going to be a time in society when everyone leaves each other alone? So, are your friends people we see in the magazines? Do you ever get hassled by choke mokes? Isn't 12' local scale like 25 foot in lesser regions.....so that's like really, really big How come your lungs are in such good shape. Don't you smoke Marlboro's? Are you one of them Aaimon Goodwin hippy types? Do you eat plate lunch? Do you eat at Cafe Haliewa or whatever it is?
Winner! I said early in this thread that if you want to just surf and live a minimalist lifestyle than great for you. Personally, I like hard work, learning new things, monetary success, and providing for my family. To each his own and I don't care how you live your life UNTIL you stick your hand in my pocket and take what I earn.
I'm responsible for everything I have done, and I have taken responsibility for everything I have done. Everybody in America already has the freedom to fail or succeed. I don't know what you are talking aboot. Is being on welfare a "success" story? It's not aboot freedom as it is luck and perserverence. Some peoples' success comes handed to them. Some work and win. Some work and fail. And Pump, MIS-13's brand of freedom isn't your brand of conservatism. He wants NO LAWS.........He pictures a society where everybody will play nice with each other without a big brother trying to maintain some semblance of order. He must know different humans than I do and have a different version of the history of mankind....
1) one can dream and people who advocate for anything else have a malfunction in their moral compass 2)no, a lot of working class heros (carpenters, nurses, divers, etc) here, albeit slightly retarded ones with large egos who chase thrills 3) no, I dont have a chip on my shoulder and I know my place (in the lineup) 4) IDK, its big and thats what I was told. I was scared but I took off on a few (4 in 2.5 hours for sessions like that) 5) my lungs are OK, always room for improvement, no cigs here 6) umm? who cares 7) who doesnt 8) I dont wander to that town too often, I keep it the other side of the bay unless I go to surf _____ or _______ just past the bay. do you have a menu favorite?
Who's sticking their hand in your pocket?? Nahhh dude, your tax money doesn't go to welfare. I checked. Your tax money goes to repair the roads in your area, and you are personally responsible for 7 tanks and one battleship throughout your tax-paying lifetime. So don't worry your money didn't go to any disadvantaged folks. Pheeew !!! Besides how we gonna kill Muslim extremists without your tax dollars? Oh, some of your state tax dollars last year went to fund the "STRONGER THAN THE SHORE" campaign. I don't know if you are cool with that or not...... If not, I hate to tell you that Christie had cheaper options but went with the advertising firm that put him in the ads.......Cost you an extra million....... Sorry, boo.
Which is why we have welfare but it needs to used to help those people get back on their feet and move forward to succeed again not as a crutch. Lets take and example, Snoop lives in Camden and can't find a job, same with Tony. Snoop goes to the welfare office and applies. he gets approved and saves his money to move to the oil fields of the Dakotas where he makes decent money. While he is there, he takes advantage of worker training programs and learns to be a plumber eventually starting his own business. Tony on the other had, stay in Camden *****ing about how the man keeps him down while going back to the welfare office week after week sticking his hand out. The first is a good use of welfare, the second is mooching.
as far as roads, who says the govt has to provide the roads? Private roads would be great. People could choose (that pesky freedom again) which to use and which not.
Nahhh, I don't have a favorite menu item. I've never been to Hawaii and probably never will be. So, I have to learn through people like you....... During the North Shore winter onslaught is there places where's there's no one out? You've never been hassled for being a haole white boy colonist zionist invader? Really? Do you go to that strip club ...ahhh Femme Nui or something like that and have you ever seen Shawn Briley? Would I have fun getting high and wandering around Honolulu? How much does a loaf of bread cost over there? Do you ever run into pro surfers and if so who are the biggest d!cks? Who's the dimmest? Oh and why you so offended by the Aaimon Goodwin question? I care.
