You know this is all Laird and Donovan's fault right?

    Laird: Tow-ins, Foils, SUPs
    Donovan: Soul boards

I admire the heck out of both of these legends, but dang, none of those crafts should be in crowds.

They did get replaced in professional competitive surfing, and to a large degree recreational surfing among the masses. For a small sub-group, though, it (the modern shortboard) became an addition to the quiver, not a substitute for it.

And no matter what I'm riding, I'm trying to avoid the crowds...

i rode all those things at some point and for the most part more modern shapes worked better. Except the 90s potato chip boards.

If I see anybody surfing my break with a man bun I'm gonna drop in on him harder than a raging feminist sitting in a line up 10,000 miles from home with fifty balding middle aged guys ever could.

My surfing totally stagnated between 1993-1997 on a potato chip board.

If I ride shapes shaped by soulrider does that make my bortes soul bortes?

I’m a huge fan of mini simmonses.

While I agree on the towboard, SUP and foil, I have to strongly disagree with you on the twins, simmons, and other "retro" shapes.

I have almost completely moved on from HPSBs. I have 1 that I keep for those handful-a-decade hurricane swells, but my daily quiver is a mix of Biscuit style boards, retro fish, quads, singles and everything in between.

Surfing for me is about drawing interesting lines, pushing the limits of how loose I can get on a turn, and challenging myself to live in the moment. That's what gets me stoked. Throwing the biggest spray or packing the deepest barrel is cool, but that is not why I surf.

Also, the only time I end up surfing in a crowd is when I'm having a blast and making it look good on one of my weird boards , and all the pack-mentality folks fill in around me.
