anyone surfed ecuador (mompiche, puerto lopez, pedernales, montenita or canoa) along the ruta del sol? leaving on a jet plane monday am for tres semanas. any info would be muy *****in' danke
I was there three years ago for my honey moon, was in Montetina for one day, it was not a good day, but from what I have heard the point break gets excellent. Here is a post I did from Delsurf, http://www.delsurf.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3647&highlight=ecuador And a trip report I wrote for a friends Web site. http://www.straycompass.com/article_page.php?recordID=29
impressive article, david. excellent and descriptive narrative. my wife knows all these places. thank you
gracias. traveling/staying with non-surfing locals who know the landscape, but not necessarily what i'm looking for....i have INFORMATION now...i'm stoked
i know a guy who did a tactical strike trip to the galapagos and scored massive waves. i have no idea where, but i saw pictures and it looked sick. i guess they needed permits or something to surf some of the reefs though because they were protected. he said the waves looked epic but were really hard to get into because they came flying into the reef and would just unload right away. the other spots sounded really cool though and i would love to have the chance to surf there.
halfway home.... thanks all. waves here fun...long if not exceptionally big. second longest wave in the world is at an island here off of mompiche. water is mid-80's, as is the air. 4-6 feet in canoa with a consistent right hand break. weekend is a zoo there but weekdays are dead. i was alone for an hour on a weds and was joined by 3 local guys and two american girls spread out over a quarter mile.....no crowds. fish plate is still 4 bucks. pedernales was more crowded and definitely dirtier, but it is local tourist season. surf season is winter (dec-feb) when things are bigger and crowds are more foreign. in puerto lopez now.... no surf but it is whale season so tons of foreigners....first american english i've heard in 2+ weeks. will not make it to galapagos but will hit montanitas monday. thanks for ideas and insights. tagua, anyone? chao
Ecuador has been on my list of surf destinations for a while. I went through Ecuador to surf northern Peru a few years ago but never surfed Ecuador. Glad you scored some fun surf, things are pretty weak here, but we are all doing our best to Stay Above the Weather!!
if you don't require 10 foot barrels to justify the trip, the fact there are many empty beaches offering LONG rides of 4-6+ft on any given OFF season day is nice....i have had help from locals for the social intercourse, but generally it is friendly and fun...and i agree...we should all try to avoid being under the weather...being sick sucks, especially if you wanna ride your Sponge, Dude . vaya con los olas.
