I guess that would work. But I'd say only about 20% of the days there's rideable surf are performance shortboard worthy. About 60% of the days would be better on a groveler or fish, and the remaining 20% would be better on a log. Not a "dream quiver," but a log, a fish, and a HPSB would be a minimalist approach around here.
Agreed, of my 5 borts, the 3 you mention get the most action, and your percentages are in ball park as far as bort usage. The others are just extra borts for added variety with some overlap in coverage.
LBCrew, I agree with you on your percentage break down of the conditions. A fish would be a good addition. The Walden mini magic boards will log, grovel, and fish. Its called magic for a reason lol.
It doesn't really. It hasn't been in the water in probably two years or more when I went fishing on it at Fort Desoto. I recognized some dings that could potentially be letting water in so I stopped taking it out and never got around to fixing it. But with my recent addition to bort repairs, I will be getting it back out there to do some fishing, and to do some long distance paddling when flat.
I know them well... I had one for about 6 months that I rode in all kinds of conditions. By far, they performed best in good waves... chest to shoulder high and up. They go in anything, but they work best when the waves are good. So if you're gonna only have one board, my theory has always been... you want it to work good when the waves are good, and just deal with it the rest of the time.
I have actually never tried a mini simmons. Not sure it would be in my dream quiver, but I would like to try one. My go to board for a while now has been the Dumpster Diver. I have a brand new WRV Generator that I have only had out twice. I really need to get that thing in the water. I also love my V3. I would like to add a 5'10" Roberts Meat Clever to the quiver.
The Dumpster Diver might be Dane's greatest contribution to surfing. Zero you should try a Simmons, they're a blast. Just surf it like one of those plastic penny skateboards. Von Sol flying manta though is hands down the best groveler I've ever owned. I don't think that I will never not have one in my quiver. It just works.
Lol! Exactly! I like my mini sim... but not as much as my fish. The mini's like riding a skipping stone... just skims across flat water like you can't believe... but you can't really put any power into it. The fish has more flow, and you can use a lot more rail.
If someone gave me a "groveler" or a "mini-simmons" (I would never buy either), my first reaction would be to politely say "Thank you!". Then I would take out my chain saw and slice them up into garbage, because that is what they are. Garbage from marketing morons. Just opinion, of course.
Barry I have similar thoughts the whole 'board model thing is odd this is my hypto cryto by hadenshpes, perfect for 2-4 ft and not too hollow! this is my Crispy mini raisin, perfect for bowel movements I am down to try any waveriding object, but the name, model, etc and volume measurement is odd shapers use different material of different density, why isnt the board measured in units of buoyancy as opposed to volume? I should shut up and take my medicine
