Tropical systems can produce that when the season is active. I lived in Texas for 5 years and would catch it down at South Padre Island...

Texas prob gets more waves then people realize. However, its much more consistent in the winter time with the frontal systems moving through. They also get some tropical action.

South TX (South Padre and Corpus Christi area) is the most consistent and can get solid from both N and SE swells and generally seems bigger than North TX. The Galveston area gets SE wind swells, but it seems to me that it serves mostly longboard waves.
