Despite an overcast, today’s weather is mild and you might be able to go surfing once the tide starts to drop. Wave height is around thigh to maybe waist, (once the tide drops). The wind is currently out of the ENE at 11 mph. But the lighter wind is not hopping up surface conditions like we had yesterday. Of course with lower air and water temps, you will need a 3/2 mm winter suit. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

The story today is the wind that is tearing down the beach at 20 mph+. You can tell from the pictures that the ocean surface is trashed. Obviously swell direction is out of the ENE and you would probably find a side-shore current moving north to south. We height is around waist high. I took these pictures right at high tide. This is the 2nd day of solid surf! But we still need the tide to drop.Wave height at high tide is waist high with an off-shore wind. If The wind stays off shore, once the tide drops wave height should be around waist high. Great air and water temps….go surfing! Finally, we have surf to brag about! Wave height is waist to stomach high, maybe chest high on an occasional face. Th wind is currently out of the SSW blowing at 12 mph. This is holding the sections up. Of course with this swell and wind direction, Corolla’s beaches are primarily delivering rights. Excellent falls conditions. The off-shore wind has been blowing for 2 days. This is leaving us with ankle slapper to knee cap tide dependent surf. Our water temps are still in the 60’s and air temp should hit about 65 degrees before the day is out. Just wait for the tide to drop, check your favorite sand bar and get your longboard. Today’s conditions are slight improvement over yesterday. The wind has turned slightly and is now blowing out of the Southeast at 13 mph. This is a straight on-shore wind which is an improvement over a side-shore. But wave height is only knee-cap to thigh high. The weather forecast is for mild temps this weekend. Today’s recommendation: wait for the tide to drop and see if your favorite sandbar might give up a longboard wave in the mid-morning: NOTE: QUEEN ANNE’S REVENGE IS PLAYING AT SUNDOGS THIS FRIDAY. The pictures tell the story! Corolla still has an on-shore/side/shore wind that has chopped up surface conditions. Wave height is only in the knee cap high range with no discernible section. Plus air temp is only 56 degrees Fahrenheit and that’s before I calculate wind chill. Our job is to keep watching the surf and report any improvements. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

We had a change in wind direction from yesterday. Monday’s wind was out of the WNW but it has turned 90 degrees and is ENE. Wind speed is blowing at about 22 mph and this has pushed the surf up. Current wave height is thigh to waist but surface conditions are choppy. There are no clear open section, its just rough and choppy. Wind speed and an 57 degree air temp is leaving us with a wind chill that feels like 45 degrees. NOTE: WE ARE SELLING OFF OUR RENTAL EQUIPMENT! GARY,COROLLA SURF SHOP

What a difference between last Monday & this Monday! As you can see Corolla is under a “Lake Atlantic” alert. A steady off-shore wind has flatten the surf. The wind has been off-shore since the weekend. We still have summer like water temps. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

Wonderful fall Sunday but we have too much wind out of the North/northwest. A section will stand up for a moment but then the wind will knock all the juice out of the wave. Air temps are starting to drop so you should probably pull out that 3/2 winter. Water temps are fine, its just the air temp will keep you cool. Corolla and the OBX had a change in weather. A cold front move in from the WNW, temperatures took a 15 degree drop and a NNW wind is barreling down the beach. After last week great surf thanks to Nicole, I think we are all a little disappointed. It still a great fall day but way too much wind to go surfing. It’s a little tricky trying to keep my perspective on the surf after Monday-Wednesday’s phenomenal surf . Today is smaller, waist high, and off-shore wind and tide dependent. Corolla has an incoming tide at this posting. My recommendation might be to check the surf around. You might find some of Corolla’s sandbars to start working. We are lucky, we continue to have another classic Indian Fall surf day in Corolla. Wave height is waist to chest on the faces. We currently have an incoming tide and a very light wind. The sun is burning off a light fog. That’s why my pictures have a light tint. Corolla has an incoming tide at this posting and H2O temps are still in the high 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
