The Hat Trick! This is the 3rd day of a gentle off-shore wind and plus head high surf. Wave hight has dropped since yesterday: head high on the faces, shoulder high on the sections. The local crew is finding that high tide might be better then low tide:less close-outs. Great air and water temps w/forecasted Indian Summer for today: GO SURFING! GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

The pictures speak for themselves! Wave hight is almost double overhead with an off-shore wind. Yesterday’s paddle out was a breeze, today’s paddle out might be a little more of a challenge. These type of conditions are for experience surfers only. ‘Controlling your speed on a drop’ will be the key factor. Hey, this is why we live hear. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

Today is the day! Probably the best surf day in weeks. As forecasted by OBXsurfinfo last week, the wind has turned off-shore which is opening up the sections. Wave height is stomach to nose high on the faces. Recommendation: Find a break that is working this AM in case the wind changes directions later on this afternoon. Equipment of choice: Performance Longboard, any short board w/a soft pin tail or thruster set up. Vertical drop might be a little iffy for a swallow tail. NOTE: WE RENT SURFBOARDS AND WETSUITS! Finally, Corolla has surf we can talk about. I just took these pictures at Shad Street. The ‘X’ factor is the wind. It has backed off to about 10 mph this AM but it is still blowing out of the East. Wave height is easily waist-stomach-chest with makable sections. The surf prognosticators are reporting an off-shore and overhead surf by tomorrow. Stay posted! GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

What a difference a week makes! Last week Corolla was getting drenched by Hurricane Matthew. The sun is out today, surf is waist to stomach, a moderate wind out of the North. Corolla is going from Low to High tide. This is probably the best surf I have seen since before Matthew. The incoming tide is pushing the size up and the sun is out. Consider going surfing this AM! NOTE: THANKS TO ALL THOSE FRIENDS OF COROLLA SURF SHOP THAT HAVE BEEN DONATING TO JASON BRICKHOUSE’S “GOFUNDME”. THEIR HOME HAS BEEN SURROUNDED BY 3’ OF WATER PRE-HURRICANE MATTHEW. FUNDS COLLECTED WILL BE USED TO REPAIR THIER HOME, BUY A WASHER/DRYER AND REPLACE DESTROYED TOOLS. https://www.gofundme.com/2tdyvmk

Sorry for the late posting! Corolla has a strong side-shore wind lowing at 22 mph. Wave height is stomach to chest. There is a strong side-shore wind moving to North to South. These are not entry level conditions. A wind speed of 22mph will mean that you need at least a spring suit. NOTE: PLEASE CLICK ON SHOP MANAGER JASON BRICKHOUSE “GOFUNDME”. Finally, the wind has dropped. I just took these pictures at Shad Street. Wave height is stomach to chest high with great fall conditions. You might find that your home sandbar might have either built up or decreased in size depending on Hurricane Matthew. My pictures are a little fuzzy due to an AM fog that is burning off: NOTE: PLEASE CLICK ON SHOP MANAGER JASON BRICKHOUSE “GOFUNDME”. Corolla still has an on-shore wind of 18 mph or 12.2 knots coming out of the East. This is creating chest high closeouts. We have an outgoing tide at this posting. My recommendation would be too see if the surf fills in this afternoon. I took these pictures at Shad Street and I could see how shallow the sand bars are after Matthew. Wind speed is dropping but is still on-shore. Wave height has dropped down to chest high. The local crew was out surfing yesterday but had to fight a strong side-shore current running North to South. What we want is for the wind to turn and come off-shore. At this posting we still have choppy conditions: NOTE: THERE IS STILL STANDING WATER THROUGH MOST OF THE OUTER BANKS. DRIVE WITH CAUTION, IF YOUR VEHICLE DOESN’T HAVE THE CLEARANCE, DON’T DRIVE THROUGH THE WATER. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

A day after Matthew, the OBX is trying to dry out. The ocean is still out of control as you can see from the pictures. The ENE wind is pushing sand and water south. Hurricane Matthew has now turned into a Nor’easter. Air temps dropped down to 56 degrees and water temps dropped down to 68 degrees: NOTE: THE CSS CREW HOPE THAT ALL OUR FRIENDS “IN-TOWN” ARE DOING OK. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

We made it through last night with no serious damage. There is flooding throughout Corolla. Of course the ocean is out of control as you can see from the pictures I just took in North Corolla. Best advice, stay in-doors until this Hurricane Matthew heads out of here: NOTE: I WILL TRY TO MAKE UPDATES AND POSTS LATER ON TODAY: GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

I’m surprised that the wave height isn’t twice the size. I just took these pictures at Albacore (in front of the surf shop). Wave height is nose high with a very strong on-shore wind creating an ‘out-of-control’ ocean. Corolla has overcast skies button rain as of this 10:24 AM posting: NOTE: JUST TOOK A DELIVERY OF OUR FALL/HOLIDAY HOODED SWEATS LONG SLEEVE TEES. I’LL GET THEM POSTED ON OUR ON-LINE STORE ASAP. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP PS: if there are major changes in surf conditions, I will make updates.

The pictures I just took at Shade Street are not Matthew. These pictures are from an un-named Nor'easter that is serving as interference and pushing Matthew out to sea and then back south. Florida might get hit twice by the same system. Corolla Beach Rescue has posted no swimming flags: strong rip and side-shore currents: NOTE: WE ARE OPEN AND WE ARE SELLING OFF OUR RENTAL EQUIPMENT.
