Took these pictures in Ocean Sands in Northern Corolla. Wave height has actually dropped by a couple of feet from yesterday. Wave height is around 8 to 10 feet with an incoming tide. The difference from Thursday is that the wind this AM is coming straight out of the East. There is some minor dune erosion. The forecast is for rain. NOTE: WE WILL BE OPEN THIS WEEKEND!! The pictures I just took at Shade Street are not Matthew. These pictures are from an un-named Nor'easter that is serving as interference and pushing Matthew out to sea and then back south. Florida might get hit twice by the same system. Corolla Beach Rescue has posted no swimming flags: strong rip and side-shore currents: NOTE: WE ARE OPEN AND WE ARE SELLING OFF OUR RENTAL EQUIPMENT. Corolla, NC:
The rough nor’easter the Corolla is experiencing is a separate system from Matthew. This system is spinning clockwise, creating a very rough out of control ocean and is only a prelude to this weekend. Corolla Beach Rescue has posting Red Flags/don't enter the ocean. NOTE: THE COROLLA SURF SHOP STORE IS OPEN. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

I took these photos in Ocean Hill. The issue continues to be the wind. It is blowing hard out of the ENE at 25mph. The waist to stomach high waves are broken and we currently have choppy surface conditions. High tide is at 10:06 AM. NOTE: WE GOT OUR ON-LINE STORE OPEN. WE ADDED GIFT CERTIFICATES FOR SURF LESSONS. The story today is the wind. Wind direction is out of the North to Northeast. Wind speed is 17 mph plus. This is knocking the stomach to chest sections over. Yesterday, the wind started off-shore but 1:00 PM it started clocking around from ESE. We are definitely keeping on an eye on Matthew. “ Hurricane Matthew, located over the central Caribbean Sea to the south- southeast of Jamaica.”

As soon as I’m done posting this report, I’m going surfing. Wave height is waist to stomach, hardly any wind and an outgoing tide. I took these pictures on the North Beach. There seems to be a good selection of lefts and rights. GO SURFING! NOTE: WE ARE OPEN EVERYDAY AT 8:00 AM. WE RENT STAND-UP PADDLE BOARDS, SURFBOARDS, BODY BOARDS AND BIKES. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

Finally, the wind has switched and surface have cleared up. Even at high tide, wave hight is at least chest high on the face. Wind direction is off-shore. I took these pictures in Corolla Village at high tide. Even at high tide, it is surf-able. But please watch the whether, radar is showing a line of thunderstorms moving into the area. If you hear thunder and/or see lighting, stay off the beach! GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

Current wave height is at least chest to head high. Wind direction is out of the East-northeast. Corolla is coming out of high tide going to low tide. The “X” factor continues to be the wind: the sections are getting knocked over. We recommend that you use a board that can in & out of closed-out-sections. This is not entry level surf. We are watching Tropical Storm/Hurricane Matthew. It’s anyone’s guess as to where it will head off to? PSA: PARENTS, KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR MUNCHKINS, WE HAVE SIDE SHORE AND RIP CURRENTS

Current wave height is stomach to chest. I tok these pictures at high tide. The wind and swell direction are out of the East-Northeast. An experienced surfer could catch quick sections and would know how to avoid ending the ride into the shore. Entry level surfers should wait till tide moves out. Another classic Corolla Fall Day! NOTE: WE ARE OPEN EVERYDAY FROM 8-6. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

Corolla has an increase in wave height: stomach to shoulder high faces. Swell direction is out of the ESE which means there will be primarily rights this AM. The wind ( at this posting ) is due east but could switch as we get into the afternoon. Board of Choice: maneuverability will be key in order to surf out from closing sections: GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

The good news: the on-shore has switched and is now coming out of the WSW. Corolla has over cast skies and hardly any wind. This has helped surface conditions and left us with a glass-off. Wave height is thigh to stomach with some decent sections go both left & right. I would check your favorite break out this AM: NOTE: WE ARE SELLING ALL OF OUR RENTAL EQUIPMENT: STAND-UP PADDLE BOARDS, SURFBOARDS, BIKES, SKIMBOARDS. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

This AM conditions include an on-shore wind out of the East-southeast, waist high surf and classic fall Corolla day. The wind has been on-shore for 2 days which helps to keep the warm Atlantic waters close to shore but creates close-out sections. Recommendation: wait for the tide to come in. At this posting, the sections are breaking on very shallow sandbars: NOTE: THIS WILL BE A GOOD WEEK FOR SURF LESSONS. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

Finally, the wind has turned and is coming out of the WNW at about 10 to 12 mph. I took these pics at Corolla Light. Wave height is waist to chest & Corolla with an incoming tide. Your board of choice should be something that can get in an out of sections quickly. All you need is a rash guard, sun screen and drinking water: GO SURFING!
