I took these pictures at 8:05 AM, just as the tide was turning from low to high. There is a softer wave breaking on the outside and an inside break that is closing out. The wind is changing by the minute; at this posting it is North to Northeast. Great water temp at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Better News:The deluge has stopped, the sun is out and the ocean is showing signs of cleaning up. At this posting, Corolla has an incoming tide. Wave height is stomach to chest but the wind is still coming out of the ocean. NOTE: COROLLA STILL HAS STANDING WATER IN A NUMBER OF LOCATIONS BUT ROUTE 12 IS CLEAR SOUTH OF THE DARE/CURRITUCK COUNTY LINE.

Corolla, NC:

A combination of a cold front and the remains of Julia meant that Corolla had 24 hours rain storm. Of course the ocean is out of control and un-surfable. The wind is out of the East blowing at 30 mph plus. Corolla’s street have standing water. If you don’t think your vehicle can make it through standing water, don’t try to drive through. What I wanted was a glass-off from the rain storm that moved in from the NW. But the wind is blowing strong out of the ESE at 20 mph+. Current wave height is chest plus with very bumpy surface conditions and a side-shore current running south to north, not an entry level surf day Recommendation: Wait for the wind to back off. Our recommendation is to consider surfing closer to high tide. Corolla’s sandbars are to shallow at dead low. We are seeing broken boards from surfers trying to catch waves right at low. Current wave height is stomach plus with a steady ESE wind. PSA: VISITING PARENTS WITH YOUNG KIDS.. PLEASE WATCH YOUR MUNCHKINS GETTING CLOSE TO RIP CURRENTS.

Corolla, NC:

The wind has backed off and conditions are surf- able. Wave height is around stomach to chest. The close-outs are not as bad as we have had for the last 3 days. The good news is that Tropical Storm Julia has moved ESE out onto the Atlantic. What happens after this, is anyone’s guess. Corolla’s current surf conditions include a ENE 17 to 19 wind, wave height around 2’ over head and choppy seas. Corolla Beach Rescue has posted Red Flags. Thanks to Tropical Storm Julia, Corolla is experiencing a change in surf conditions. The wind has switched and is now blowing on-shore (ESE) at 15 mph at this posting. Wave height is waist to almost chest. Note: I took these pictures at dead high. Corolla’s breaks will start working once the tide drops. PSA: please pay attention to Corolla Beach Rescue’s “RIP CURRENT FLAGS”.

Today is just one of those great fall days. Corolla ( at this 9:00 AM posting) has an off-shore wind, waist plus surf and ‘summer like’ weather conditions. The bad/good news is that the wind has switched and is coming out of the ENE. You can tell by the pics that this chopped up the ocean and has left Corolla with bumpy surface conditions: The good news: all the bugs got sent back to the mainland. NOTE: SECRET! My concern is too much wind. The direction is almost out of the south and speed is 14 to 17 mph. Dead low might expose too many sandbar so wait till about 11:00 AM before going out. Today’s surf looks like yesterday’s surf. Corolla has an off-shore wind, waist surf and a tide that will flip this AM. I took these pics at 8:00 AM right at dead low. I took these pictures at 8:00 AM, right at low tide. You can see the sandbar. Wave height is thigh to stomach with the tide flipping. Clean decent longboard wave with an off-shore wind.
