Gary overcast day. The light rain is leaving Corolla w/a glass off. I took these pictures in Corolla Light. Current wave height is thigh to maybe waist with an incoming tide. High is 4:00 PM. A longboard day w/hardly any wind chill: 2M RIP
I don’t know what to say? This is a shocker. Mickey McCarthy welcomed Corolla Surf Shop 21 years ago. Along with Lynn Shell, Mike Price, Rascoe Hunt and Murray Ross, Mickey was one of our first surfboard shapers. My 1st Longboard was New Sun. Mickey was also my mentor when I started reporting on the radio. He took the 8:00AM report and I would do the 8:20AM on 95.3 FM. He told me just be myself on the radio, don’t embellish your report. Beside being a great shaper, the best East Coast surf photographer, great carpenter, Mickey was a student of American History. He knew his stuff when it came WWII and the Civil War. I remember at the 1997 ESA Banquet, Julie Hume presented him with the ‘Sportsman of the Year Award†for his contribution to the ESA.
2MM RIP
Not bad for a winter surf day I just took these pictures off of my home break. The wind continues to blow off-shore. This is giving the swell a nice shape. Corolla has an incoming tide. Wave heigh is thigh to waist and longboard-able. Recommended wetsuit:
4/3 full, boots, gloves a hood. REMINDER: COROLLA SURF SHOP WILL BE OPEN ALL THE WAY THROUGH 1/1/17. GARY, COROLLA SUR SHOP
Mild weather & a drop off in wind speed have left us Corolla with clean thigh to waist high surf. The sun is out and air temps might hit the 50 degree mark. The lack of wind means a there is no wind chill. Corolla has an incoming tide at this posting and longboard-able surf: NOTE: IF YOU ARE COMING DOWN TO CELEBRATE NEW YEARS IN COROLLA, REMEMBER WE ARE OPEN AND OFFER FREE DELIVERY & PICK UP ON ALL OF OUR RENTAL EQUIPMENT INCLUDING BIKES.
